I have caught them but have not targeted them. In my opinion the numbers are very low

Use to slay eye’s in Isle. Lots of little guys but caught the odd big one. Was great up until roughly 5-6 years ago where the lake had a bad winter kill (Isle winter kills often). Haven’t caught a Walleye there since. Still a fair number of Pike around.

Hi Smokinyotes
We were out on the lake today Counted over 30 trucks easy out there . We caught many small pike and seen no walleye in the camera. No one around us caught any walleye either. But who know, maybe after the sun went down they have started to bite . We left around 3:30 ice was around 15 inches in middle of the lake . A lot of good truck trails . Had a good two inches of flood water once we cut some holes and cleaned the snow away for the tent .

Thanks we were out yesterday between the two islands towards the west end. Ended up only catching 1 pike. Never saw anything down the holes. The area we were was a great spot for walleye 15 years ago.

Default Isle Lake Walleye fishery

The regs say that one can keep walleye out of Lake Isle but according to some folks I chatted with recently, and these are regular fishing folks out there, they say that they have not seen a walleye come out Isle Lake for many, many years. We had decent pike fishing out there recently this winter and ice is good. I hear there are some perch but hard to come by. Any thoughts this 2023 year?

Walleye exist but so few they are not worth targeting. Out of all the lakes in Alberta with with walleye it doesn’t make sense why Isle has a one any size limit and others are C&R or tags

Perch are there I don’t fish them but see them follow lures in open water. They seem to think my glide baits should join there schools. I look at perch as baitfish so I leave them be so can’t say how the numbers really are

Right now I would call it a pike lake for the most part.

Been years since we fished by the islands. Can you even get a keeper pike out of Isle lake these days? Asking as I also heard of the recent winter kills.

Used to catch walleye and perch there but we only caught them consistently in a couple of areas but that was probably 15 years ago. Was one of the best local perch lakes at one time.

I've never personally caught or even seen a walleye at Isle, but was kayak fishing there with my cousin last summer and he trolled one up along the south shore. So there must be a few around, but hard to come by.

Pike bite seems to be better this winter than last, both in size and numbers. Lots of dink perch (~4"), but like Smoky I don't target them so maybe there are bigger ones that I'm unaware of.

It actually makes perfect sense. Isle winterkills all the time. There was a long stretch of high water and good fishing 20-30 years ago, but it’s not normally like that.

May as well let people keep fish instead of rotting on the bottom. We have been asking for that for years, they actually listened for once.

Lot of lakes that killed in the last go round iirc 2014, never came back. Can’t do much about winter though

I can see your point with winter kill but you are going to be extremely disappointed if you go looking for an isle lake walleye the numbers are extremely low

I think the winter kill that was the demise of the walleye was the winter of 2010/11. There were 100’s dead by our lake shore that spring. I’ve heard of people seeing them down by Camp He Ho Ha but no reports of anyone catching them. Last winter and this winter are the most fisherman I’ve seen on lake isle.

We targeted walleye in June last year. Did a bunch of bottom bouncing around the various structures. No walleye to be found. Sonar did not show lots of fish. Caught a few fish but only pike. Sonar did not show any groups of arches. I would say the lake has very limited walleye or none at all.

Caught a 12” walleye fishing for perch on Saturday. They are in there and breeding but maybe in lower numbers.
