Remington VTR .223 yes or no?
I have been looking at buying one of these in .223 for coyotes and gophers, does anybody have any experience with one of these? The triangular barrel with the brake looks impressive.
Is the 1-9 twist alright for the 53 gr. V-max?

You should be good up to the 70-77grain pills with a 1-9". Personally if get a non triangle barrel. I'd also get a non Remington. Buts that's my personal preference.

Because of the blast?
I always hearing protection, the noise level of any firearm including .22 rimfire is damaging to your hearing.
The brake would reduce recoil; I like to see my bullet splash when goher shooting.

I too wear hearing protection but not when im yote calling which is where the brake becomes a problem i love remingtons but hate muzzle brakes just my preference if you dont mind it im sure it will be an accurate rifle like most remingtons they are a neat looking rifle

Had one in .204. Shot great but was a real ear snapper! Get it and try it. If it is to loud chop the break off. Does not effect the gun in anyway

Tried out my VTR .223
I couldn't be happier! 5 shots into 3/4" using Hornady 55 grain V-max factory (zombie bullets )
I'll use factory for coyotes this winter and make up a load in the spring.
Trigger pull out of the box was 3.5 Lbs. the brake does add some blast but I didn't find it over bearing. I could see my bullet splash at 300 yards so I'm good to go for gophers this spring.

Why a brake on a .223? Makes less than no sense.

With a brake you can see your bullet hit through the scope
I have a 22-250 when you shoot at gopher its so fast you can't see the bullet strike the only way to tell if made a hit is to have a spotter or walk out and look for body parts.

So, the muzzle brake slows the velocity of the .223 round?
I thought the sole purpose of the brake was to vent off gases to reduce felt recoil.

The brake reduces the recoil so you can keep your eye on the target, even the light recoil of a .223 is enough to make the rifle jump, by the time you recover your target the bullet has already been there .
If your shooting at gophers its hard to see a hit, if the gopher is still there seeing where the bullet hits allows you to make a correction.

Right, got you.
To me, a .223 has no real perceivable recoil. But, I could imagine the very slight "nudge" on long shots with a scope might affect observations.
