Was there yesterday to have a look.

It's totally frozen over, not sure about thickness as I didn't have an auger w/me. I did heave a fist sized rock as high as I could from the top of the boat launch. It bounced several times and slid 1/4 the way across the pond.

Cheers.

I live in sylvan lake and in the fall i went looking for the dickson pond and i saw a little pond but it definatly was not the one in the picture how do you get to this pond you have the pics of? I went down the hill right after the dam building where you go to get to the river and i saw a little pond im guessing thats not the dickson trout pond though because it was nowhere near that size.

Go west past the sign for Dickson Damn on Hwy 54. Turn left at the intersection by the Co-op in Spruce View. You will see it signed as
Zip-in-Z has shown and you are there.

It is important to remember that my post is no endorsement of the safety of the ice on this pond. As always proceed with caution.

Cheers.

I was out there on the 20th it was totally frozen over then and about 2" thick where I punched a hole. just used a big log to do so. with this cold snap weve had it should be pretty close to 3"+ I'm heading out this weekend to try her out though.

Was at Dickson on the 27th. Exactly 4" of ice. Fishing was really slow, one on the ice and only a couple other bites.

Dec 03rd

Decided to try Dickson’s for a couple of hours this afternoon, + 4C another BTY day, caught 3 small Bows and one Mr. Suck’s in 5-6 FOW, all released.

Took my shed, sight fishing helped, had the camera but the water clarity was not great. There was two other fella’s out, one caught a few small ones on worms the other said not today. The ice on Sylvan is thicker than where I was, the flood water made it a bit uncomfortable.

Some pics …. Enjoy.

Is Dickson trout pond a good place to take young kids ice fishing? I would like to take my 3 year old. Is it a place were you can catch a lot of fish or is it usually slow fishing?

Its extremely hit and miss. We go out some days in the summer and bring in 20 fish in a couple hours and the next day in the same spot we don't even get a nibble.

Scroll up and you will see many posts on the ice. You must not have read any of this post.

Not sure ice conditions from 2016 are relevant.

Lots of ice, plenty of snow. One trout in 4-5 hours. Probably was a hundred people on it when we went on the second.
