Default Ammo Prices Set to Rise 'Substantially'

That’s the title of the article. According to Newsweek (which is not necessarily the best source, but given they actually confirmed the letter with Vista, I’d take it as a good source), prices of ammo and components are about to go up… yet again.

Vista Outdoor, a parent company to many firearms businesses, told Newsweek that it will substantially increase its ammunition prices due to "an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder."

The Minnesota-based company confirmed the authenticity of a December 1 letter sent to customers that it would go ahead with an across-the-board increase of its ammunition and gunpowder prices on January 1.

"Due to world events our suppliers have notified us of unprecedented demand for and an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder, and thus has increased our prices substantially," Vice President of Sales, Sporting Products Brett Nelson said in the letter. "We must therefore raise our pricing to help offset those increases."

Companies that will increase their prices include Remington, Alliant Powder, CCI, Federal, SEVI-Shot and Speer. The following increases include:

- Shotshell: 1-7 percent
- Rifle: 1-7 percent
- Handgun: 1-5 percent
- 22LR/Shorts: 1-5 percent
- WMR/HMR: 1-7 percent
- Primers: 5 percent
- Alliant Powder: 10 percent (limited availability).

I am assuming the others not listed above would follow suit because no one is going to price themselves out of some 4.5% profit margin by sticking it to us once again.

Those percent increases quoted won't even keep up with inflation!

Real kick will come when US DOD get's their new budget year and starts placing orders to re-stock the large volumes of old ammo they shipped to Ukraine and other countries over past few years.

Default Ammo Price

Ha
The Clown Prince won't have to bother confiscating our guns
Between interest rates, inflation, the carbon tax and the rising cost of ammo, no one's going to be able to afford to shoot anyway.
(Oh... except drug dealers - they seem to be immune to normal economics )

You can make your own black powder. Flintlocks might be the future. I agree about basically pricing everything to point that average person not able to afford. Basically gun control for common people.
We are more like Soviet hole every year. Thank God for Danielle and hopefully Pierre.

The fact 2024 is a general election year is more than enough to predict prices will rise. Has happened every 4 years since the 2nd George W term.

The trend for the past 3 or 4 years has been a steady upward spiral and I see no end in sight, twice a year we see 8 - 10 % increases in ammunition and component costs, welcome to the new liberal world

I would be thrilled with even a 10% annual increase in prices, as in reality, the prices have increased more like 50% over the past two years, and the future doesn't look any better.

I've lost track of the number of times they raised prices in the last two yrs. Seems to me it was every quarter. I'm not sure where the bullet companies are buying lead from, recycled vs virgin is a question in itself. Not sure if Cominco is even still smelting virgin lead anymore in Trail, they were the last one in N America I believe. Copper for the jackets? Think there were two big mines closed up recently by gov'ts in 3rd world countries that wanted more money out of them and canceled the operator's licence deals, they probably were getting screwed, but, that doesn't help. Then you get the skyrocketing demand for it for thr EV industry and emissions/green industry needs. I believe it was said there aren't enough mines to feed the demand, and there won't be, apparently.

Yeah, raise fuel prices till nobody can drive, raise ammo prices untill nobody can shoot. I've been pretty convinced that this is the long term goal for some time now.
