I know the guys that work outta the fire bases make pretty good cash up here but it's very seasonal....and really not all that "safe" if ya know what I mean. Most of the guys that I know that do it are fighting the fires....but they do sock it away when they're busy for sure.
I'm thinkin' this may be a busy season if that helps.

The refueling for large fires is contracted out to companies like economy carriers. The pilots can only hot fuel (leaving the aircraft running) if they have a certified refueler, as the pilot must stay at the controls. The guys that come out just do the refueling and fuel testing, ("Bright and clean" test).
I don't know what they get paid but based on what the contract price for a refueling set up is, I would guess starting wage would be around $15.00- $18.00 to hr?

Thanks for the info,I hope its not that low though.you can get $15hr stocking shelves for f sakes.
I was thinking more like going as low as $25hr just because it would be something different with some adventure for the summer.
O well find out tomorrow i guess

You might want to look for another oilfield job. Not every job starts out at $25 a hour just so you know.

I can almost guarantee you the you won't make much more than was stated, IF that.
Refuelling does not pay well, but it's not poverty wage.

Bang,
If you want to make money stay away from aviation. $15-$18 is probably going to be the range of pay.
A licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (journeyman mechanic) starts at $22-$25/hr
A low time pilot that spent $50,000 for his/her license will have a starting wage of $20-25,000/yr

No kiddin hey,thats brutal
considering a guys takeing his own truck into a fire zone and all.
time for a city trip anyways i suppose, maybe last years bear mount is done so it wont end up a total wast of fuel if the wage does turn out to be depressing

Hey fueling planes in fire season ain't exactly sorting mail you know. If you don't mind working in an air conditioned building you could start at Can post for 25 per hour.

FITTY!
I cross my hands and close my eyes and pray every night..."Please dear Lord, don't let my Mom find out that I am an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer! Please, please, please sweet baby Jesus, my beloved mother still thinks I shine the brass pole at the drake Hotel in Vancouver. Thanks Lord for keeping the secret!"
