Great series !
They are indeed Grebes, but not Horned.
They are in fact, Eared Grebe. Horned Grebe have Reddish necks and more pronounced yellow on their heads.
I find it interesting that they would nest on what amounts to temporary ponds.
We Don't get Eared Grebe up here, only Horned Grebe. Around here, the Horned Grebe build a very similar nest but so far as I can tell, they only build on permanent water bodies.
Here are a couple of Nesting Birds I have photographed recently.
I haven't had time to do much photography lately, but I'm hoping to do a bit in the next two weeks. There are a pair of Flickers nesting in my yard and I hope to spend some time capturing them at their nest.

Cool pics. Thanks.
what do yo mean you had to take ducks off a fence. Were they caught in a wire?

Yes with the water so close to the road a truck must scare them and they fly into the fence wire.

Here is mother goose behind us in the storm ponds, I can see her from our kitchen and deck.
She has been there on tresury Island for a while now, but now a silly question for how long does a goose sit on her eggs till they hatch.
And do musk rats eat eggs or baby chicks? There are a few rats in that pond.

Very cool. I wish they could nest in my yard.
And yes Muskrats do eat eggs and I would expect they would eat the chicks too, if they had the chance. But I don't know that for sure.
I'm not sure how long the brood the eggs. four to five weeks I would guess.

Great photos folks!
I don't have many nesting photos, but I have acquired a few over the years that I have had a camera (wildlife capable).
There are the Goose nesting photos, I have several more of those.
Then there are these;
A Shoveller Duck nest and eggs. What you see is all there was to see. The nest was very well hidden in a dense clump of slough grass.
Horned Grebe on her nest.
Nesting Pied Billed Grebe
I have a couple of other photos but I can't find them right now. Don't know what I did with them. One is of a Flicker at her nest and the other an unknown nest full of eggs, under a small spruce tree.

There are plenty of geese around Rocky but there is also plenty of standing water. I would think there is nesting habitat for everyone.
I don't know why this goose chose to nest between the highway and the pasture fence east of town. Her goslings better learn to "Look both ways" pretty quick when they come off the nest
