We’ve hunted quite a bit since then with a few encounters with our big target whitetail buck. Hopefully that buck is next.

Loving this thread. I had started browsing Rokslide to get my fix of meat pole pics. Love seeing what people are experiencing right here in Alberta.

270hunter your Dad should be very proud of the son he has raised. You are an inspiration to all us old buggers who wish we were 16 again. Congratulations on your first archery elk.

Nicely done Lefty. They are rutting pretty good now. We called in a pretty good bull this morning as well.

Carrying a hind and a front on my back at once was definitely a lot heavier then packing out a sheep in the Yukon that’s for sure. Makes me respect the backcountry elk hunters a lot more hahaha

Congrats 270hunter! Good job...

Although I only rifle hunt, I scan this thread frequently. Many young successful hunters...very nice to see.

And also good job on the older fogies...

Maybe I'm the only guy who cares about trivial details but I would be super curious to see what people's gear setups are, especially in the broadhead department. If anyone is willing to share.

First whitetail night of the year, rainy day could have stayed inside. This particular spot has always been good. Usually use a stand for whitetails but I’ve found hunting does fun, challenging and rewarding from the ground. Set out and setup under a fallen tree, no blind just sit in the shadows. She came in downwind and stopped as she hit my downwind scent as I let arrow fly. Entering point of shoulder and exiting out opposite side behind rear rib. Full pass through 100 grain grim reaper at 32 yards. 15 yard recorvery. Upon reaching arrow stuck in tree I could smell contents of gut. I knew there was no way the shot was bad as I saw it disappear at the shoulder. But she reacted to the arrow and spun to leave. They are quick!

Not too often, i get to post in this thread. Made some time this year with my bull draw to try and get it done early. Snuck out for a quick evening sit last night and after about an hour of cow calls had this meat bull come in grunting away. Let him come into 35 yards and sent some carbon. 3 hours later he was hanging in the cooler. What a feeling to put some meat away early.

Mathews Triax, 28", 70lbs, 440gn arrow, 270fps slick trick viper 125gr

Arrow is in the next county somewhere blew right through and didn't slow down. Not entirely impressed with the broadheads, they cut and penetrated amazing, but the wound channel was hard to even find. Oh well...hes dead and hanging. Two holes through the lungs, and he died in sight. No tracking needed.
