This, expect them to raise prices first. Then throw up some sale tags showing 30% off but still allowing them to make back cost

Cant say I'm surprised, every time I went to south Edmonton one, there were 7 people in there, and 5 of them worked there. Looks like date night with the wife tomorrow night is going to be a trip there

Default My bow is at the store being serviced!

I have a bow in their store having a limb being replaced. Not having it for archery season is killing me! Now this!

Not a big surprise considering who owns them. Can barely run their own stores.

Apparently we'll know more shortly after 3:00 PM. There's supposed to be a webinar with the big wigs on what the plan is.

A sad day to be sure. It makes sense but unfortunate timing for people to have to look for work.

I'd be willing to bet that they'll pull pricing off their website. I believe WSS priced their merchandise at cost plus instead of MSRP.

It was only a matter of time. First Cabelas, then a second Cabelas and now Bass pro coming in May to the new outlet mall. Competition is good if you're a major player.

I'm not sure if they'll close all their stores or just some of them, but I for one will miss Wholesale Sports if they close up completely.

At least we won't have to read the regular "Wholesale Sports Sucks" threads every week / month. I'm sure a lot of people are quite happy that WS is closing their doors though.

I was told that Bass Pro is not coming to the new mall due to south Cabelas proximity

Default Update - Not certain what it means though

So I left a message on the 1-800 number and was called back within 20 minutes.

The person who called me said not to worry that all the stores were closed for a meeting today and I would be able to pick up my bow tomorrow when they are open during normal business hours.

When I asked what the meeting was in regards to, she just deflected my question by repeating "we will be open for business tomorrow, have a good day..."

The Bass Pro Cabelas deal was just recently approved so all is final pretty much. Bass Pro owning both can open or close whatever they want. If this Wholesale thing is done a south Calgary store would make lots of sense. Not really much down here other than fly shops and crappy tire. Longer drive to buy the good stuff.

Yes, deal approved, but there was no plan to build their custom building there, and they are certainly not shuttering a very profitable shop in Cabelas south with a fairly new building. dollars and cents

That's too bad. I enjoyed the competition. How many people did they employ nation wide?
Economy picking up? Don't think so...

Could have nothing to do with the economy. Could be a badly run business. It wasnt the cream of the crop for much of anything. I feel bad for the employess though. Very much so...

Default Lethbridge

The Lethbridge store is closed with a sign on the door stating "end of store liquidation sale" with tomorrow's date.

Definitely not happy about people losing their jobs. But it was a glorified Walmart that catered to the outdoors. Walmart sucks too...
