It’s in French mostly but this is crazy. Hope it doesn’t catch on but I think it’s headed that way.

There are quite a few articles on the topic.

Leftist Îles-de-la-Madeleine mayor just wants to control who leaves his idyllic island community.

He has already legislated that all visitors have to pay a $30 fee to leave town,
if you don't pay, you can't leave.
C'mon, what's wrong with that?

You gotta pay the toll Troll.
My advice, bring Three Gruff Goats.

Sounds to me like much the same idea as visiting Banf or Jasper, except it isn’t a National park. It will likely end up costing them much more in tourist dollars than the fees will raise, but it’s Quebec so they will be able to gain it back in transfer payments from the ROC

We have this in Alberta already with the Kananaskis park pass, as well as the national park pass mentioned by Jungle boy.
Maybe for non Canadian residents, but for Canadian residents this is absurd.

I will never pay their fee, because I will never go there, it's that simple.

I'm Pretty sure there's a Netflix movie or an Amazon Prime Movie coming out about visitors who enter a town being immediately imprisoned.
Maybe this town is where they got the idea for a movie.

Yep. If this type of revenue generating tax is good enough for the people of Alberta, it is good enough for the people of Quebec.

I like the part where they realize this public consultation is purely for appearances; the decision is already made.
People get the leadership they vote for.

Default Oppose 15 Minute Cities

I confess to not watching the video, being that it is French. But this has to be a penalty that is built into a 15-minute-city concept. Of course if you oppose a 15 minute city, you are labelled a conspiracy theorist.

Oppose 15 Minute Cities unless you want the government to micro manage your entire life.

I think this has nothing to do with 15 minute cities and everything to do with foolish short sighted politicians trying wring every last tax dollar out of the taxpayer. They will kill the goose (tourism) that laid the golden egg and then blame something else for their failure. Probably global warming or English Canada.

No.

This mayor wanted to have all residents provide a QR code to leave the Island.
He has now settled to demanding that residents have to provide government issued ID in order to leave...

This is more than just a $ issue.

I'm disheartened by how often politicians get dismissed as being stupid when the reality is much more sinister.
Call a spade a spade.

How do people that live in Jasper and Banff come and go from the park?

I don’t think anybody has to verify leaving the park. Just drive past.

They just come and go, travelling unimpeded, as free citizens of Canada.

The same applies for those that just drive through Kananaskis park.

No travel tax and no stopping to identify yourself required.

Scary that this has to be explained....

According to parks Canada I think you’re misinformed.

“Resident passes are available to Jasper residents whose vehicles are registered in Jasper. They ensure access to your residence without the cost of a park visitor pass.”
Looks like free and just goes on mirror.

Hmmm so kinda like a low tech QR code then.

I’m not saying I agree with it , just saying, there is nothing new under the sun and keeping the towns folk prisoner isn’t likely what this over reaching town council was shooting for.
