Default Electricians

I need a plug for my welder installed in the garage and was wondering if there were any electricians in the Cochrane area on here that would like a small job.

Hoped to get it done in the next week. I can always call someone local but just thought there may be one on here.

The plug you will use depends on the unit your running or plan to run. Obviously the less material you need the cheaper it will be. Get your plug closer to the panel and it's cheaper. Also is the garage finished? If it is you'll be surface mounting and with mechanical protection again it costs a little more. Basically you need a guy to come check it out and give you a quote. All the hard work is already done with the panel already installed. Do some checking around and get a couple quotes as some guys love to rip off other guys for a straight forward easy job. I'd do it for ya but.. I'm way up in St albert.

if the panel is in the garage, a piece of tek cable and a plug is pretty cheap, and no mechanical protection is require if the plug is high enough. the welder should have the amp rating and voltage on it.

I don't know TJ. Somehow you and a welder just don't seem to fit together. I have pictures in my head of some dreaded globs of weld on some fancy metal work. lol

JK. Enjoy it I know I miss my welder.

LOL...I did have another life once. I learned to weld from an Ojibwe pressure welder many years ago while I was doing my millwright apprenticeship in Northern Manitoba and man that fellow was talented and had patience.

What is said here is correct

You can get a plug at princess auto and it is pretty easy to install yourself. Did one for a buddy last week took me all of half an hour, cost him more in beer. Send me a message for step by step instructions. We can talk about the beer later

That would be for a 120 volt plug what about a 240 welding plug? where would the red wire go?

240V will have two "hot" conductors, usually 1 black, 1 red as well as the white "neutral" and a ground. This is similar to a stove or dryer but will differ depending on the amps your welder is rated for.

No need for a neutral on a welder outlet. Straight 240 volt Connect the black to one side, the red to the other side of the outlet and the ground to the green. In the panel red and black to either side of a 2 pole breaker (of appropriate amperage) and weld away
