Default Belize Fishing Adventure

I went to Belize with a buddy from April 18-25, 2017. It was a different fishing adventure as we did a live a board experience. It was great being out on the water where the fish were.

Here is a video of Chris catching a cuda on a fly rod. Very acrobatic and this was after the initial jumping show.

We spent the first few days chasing tarpon and permit with a short excursion chasing bonefish.

The next few days we went permit hunting exclusively at a second anchor.

The final two days we went the furthest to the best area for Permit. It was near Rendezvous Island.

Unfortunately we were plagued with a low pressure system that seemed to have the permit turned off. While we had shots they were not plentiful. Between excitement induced flubbed casts to ever changing direction permit, to spookiness, to pelicans and cormorants...it seems getting something done for permit was not in the cards.

Still it was very exciting stalking and casting to them.

I did manage a nice bonefish, a number of cuda and small jacks. Next time.

I learned a lot about this trip and what flies I need for next time.

I gather no tarpon. That is my next challenge. Caught a 25lber in Belize 2 years ago in a river south of Punta Gorda. Where did you stay? BEL

Thanks for the post.

Looks like a great time. Salt water fishing is the best!

Tarpon were rolling in the channel and a few babies in the mangroves but no one was getting strikes.

We were on a live aboard in the islands off from Belize City. Furthest we went was across from Turneffe.

Could be a great spot in late Mayband June.

It was. There are lots of cudas. They want fast moving flies.
