Default Rifle Twist Question

As I was looking more at the Tikka rifles in 30 cal, I noticed that they are a 1:11 twist rate as opposed to everybody else at 1:10 twist. Why would Tikka choose to do this? Are there advantages?
Just an observation.
Thanks

Are you gonna shoot 220 grain bullets? If not it’s a non starter.

Default Tikka twist

My T3 in 300 Win shoots bug holes with 200’s (maybe because it’s a lefty). I don’t have any plans to go heavier so twist is a non issue.

So I guess what you are saying is if I don't plan on shooting more than 180's in my 30-06 don't worry.

Nope, you can run some cup/core 200’s at 1 in 11 twist, and up to around 165/168 grains in a monolithic bullet at 1 in 11 twist.

The cut off is about 1.3 inches in length for the projectile, with a 1 in 11 twist.

Try this calculator:

You can also find numerous web data bases which list bullet lengths so you can spend hours upon hours hypothesizing the potential outcomes.

Thanks Dick284. You are a wealth of information. There truly is so much to learn about this hobby of ours.

My Sako 30-06 shoots 165s much better than 180s. I am sure a reloader could make something work but for factory ammo I haven't found any 180s that shoot under an inch. It does shoot the Hornady Precision Hunter 178 ELD-X right around an inch but will shoot 165 Custom Interlocks into a cloverleaf.

1 inch of twist rate really doesn't matter too much, it depends on the in dividual barrel.
I sold friend a M70 Match rifle in 308 Winchester a few years back, wonderful gun. Factory 1:10 twist , and the previous owner ,Ed Begg of Vbull Presicion ( RIP) Used to run 200 plus grain Berger Juggernaut in it in F/TR.
However, many of the 308 F/TR guns are being made in 1:11 these days.
My two pre 64 Winchester 3006 rifles are in 1:10.
