My plan is to test some 125 and 130gr'ers this winter, there fun to plink with,,, we loaded a few to see what kind of results we'd see at long range,,, we were pretty impressed to see some half decent groups with out any load development at this point.
My friend did ok with 3" to 4" groups at 200 meters off the frozen table,,, 7" to 10" at 430 m.
I fared a little bit better with the Hornady 130 SP bullets from 4 to 600,,,, things started falling apart at the 700 meters,,, the 800 mark was max for most of the other 3 tests...dismal results at 9 to 1 km mark,,, let's call it the big barn door group. Ha... This is where load development will help...mostly due to not buckeling down and failing to pay attention to the light winds.
I can see why my friend suggested using those 180 to 200 gr'ers,,, they fly so nice, good consistency that reach out there,,, of course this is the paper punching thing. What works for my friend and I might not work for the next person.
The day will come when I settle on one bullet for everything,,, but for now it's burn powder time.
2019 is the 190 lead boolitz,,, a quick barrel clean, then off to the races.
Mostly close range plinking stuff with the family,,, let's call it the festive fun shooting stuff.
Variety to fill the winter of good times, that and lots of ice fishing with some Trad archery on the frozen Lake,,, the kids really enjoy this stuff,,, the quad with tracks will be underway when we get back from the East after Christmas.
Lots of Moose in Northern AB,,, but the glory hole to them is here in Northern ON,,, a hard life on the edges of the Canadian Shield produces some might fine beasts.
This is where those Grand Slams will come in handy up here.
Nothing like the big "Pa-Pack" when the bullet tags the Wrappers. Ha,,, our Western group is in-charge of transportation this year,,, the Eastern dudes are hard on stuff. Ha
