Default 20g shells

Hey guys,

I live in edmonton and am trying to get some cheaper 20g ammo. Ive been hearing some stuff regarding 20g challenger ammo potentially being associated with barrel cracking. I am looking first for some trap shells - something in the #7-8 range. Cheapest i have found were those challengers for about 9 bucks a box. And next to that some stuff a bit more reliable around 10-12 per box. Anyone have any suggestions for a cheapish but good shell?

I will also be looking for some #2 for hunting as well. A shell that has done well for anyone in a 20g?

If anyone has any input would be appreciated.

Swamp Donkey Outdoors is close to Edmonton, and usually has good prices. Prophet River had a great sale on 20 gauge Remington Target loads, but the sale appears to be over now. I have used Challenger, Remington, Federal, and the cheap Winchester 20 gauge loads, and the cheap Winchesters were the only ones that I prefer not to use.

Stay away from Challenger, junk.

I buy super-x for my boy--buy $150 worth, use the $20 survey coupon--helps

I have never had an issue with Chsllenger amp but some of the cheaper Winchester ammo jams up cheaper shotguns , in fact I had a call from the Prez of our club the other day about it.
His Missberg and H&R shotguns were not ejecting the Winchesters but his other guns were .
During the Amazing Race Canada we went through many flats of Hallenger ammo in the cheaper Winchrster pumps without a hitch .

I avoid the Winchester/Super X Super Targets and Universals, as although my K-20 will eject them, I can feel the extra force required when extracting them. As well ,some had such poor crimps, the end of the hull was belled, and they had to be forced into the chambers. They are by far the lowest quality target loads that I have used. Between trap.skeet. and sporting clays, I shoot at four different clubs, and the Challengers, are the most common loads being used at those clubs.

Agree the Winchesters are the worst quality wise, even the high priced AA's
have falllen off in quality with some having some ugly crimps. Remington Gun Clubs are very good if you can find them. SCORE is also good, I believe most UFA stores carry them. As for waterfowl loads, I find 3 inch Kent 7/8 oz number 2's hard to beat for both ducks and geese.
