Unknown binoculars
A buddy of mine just brought over some binoculars he just picked up. A google search came up empty. I’m guessing that they are old school range finding binoculars. They are clouded up and looking through them is impossible as they sit.
They only markings are BN2, 5x25.
Anyone have any idea?

They are non functioning right now. You can hear a buzz when you put batteries in them but no display or vision through them. An interesting conversation piece no less. I can’t see 2 AA batteries lasting all that long in them but in their current condition, that won’t matter.

I think they were very early technology and the image intensification was never that great. Possibly they were sold as surplus, but I could be wrong. Bright light, as I recall could wreck them.

Soviet Filin type nv binocs
There should be markings near the on off switch. Maybe rubbed off but if you tilt them in the light, you should see Russian lettering

All the info is right on the center cap,BN2 5X42 NV Russian Bino's. Dumpster material and not something worth looking into.

I types what I thought it said in to google and nothing came up. It’s worn off and difficult to read properly. As my pirate post said, I thought it said 5x25. Not 2.5x25.
The question was answered as to what it was. Not dumpster material, a cool item to show. Functioning or not, it’s still a cool piece of kit. For what my buddy paid for them, he’ll get plenty of good conversation from them, especially now knowing what they are.

Those are russian night vision binoculars. $200, not working, online at collector's stores.
