Default Need help with Lowrance Hook 5

Debated whether I should put this in fishing but as it has to do with the system and not fishing thought I’d start here.

I have a Lowrance Hook 5 HDI with GPS. When I try to turn it on it displays “Lowrance hook5” then the screen just goes black and does nothing. I was hoping someone in preferably west Edmonton, would allow me to hook my screen to their boat to see if it’s my monitor or my wiring? If somebody has the same system.

It’s about 2-3 year old system and been used half a dozen to a dozen times. Very frustrating.

Make sure battery is good first. Then go from there.

It sounds like a loose wire or bad connection. I have a portable unit and if I don't get good contact at the battery it does exactly what you have described.

Mine would corrode the terminals in the power supply from being wet and left connected to the batteries in storage.

I ended up building a new one out of female deutsch terminals. I’m sure you’ve got a couple of those on your truck if yours uses the same terminal.

Set your multi meter to ohms and check resistance between the pin in the plug and end of the power cable on both the + and - wires. Could have corrosion or broken wires under the insulation.

Default My guess

I agree with pikergolf. The terminal end from the transducer cable can be a real bugger to get tight. I fight with mine every spring but it is an older model. The pins will bend if you're not careful and one may have broken off.

Hit the power button 3 times quickly your screen will come back then hit the enter or X and the sonar should come on. Happens to lot's of the Hook 5 and 7

Thanks I’ll try that next time I go out to the lake. I don’t have my boat in the city. Just the monitor. I’m still hoping someone else with this system will let me test the monitor on their install.
