was in for a while today........amazed at the prices everyone is asking for used guns! WOW! couple 788's @$700. saw a gevarm .22 semi-auto for $700 (i paid 125 new for my 788 and 99 new for my gevarm) why do the prices get so high 10/15 years after you sell them cheap?)

I found a couple of very rare rifle magazines, Tikka M65 - 7RM and an M55 - .243.
Also a very old Puma knife, model Hunters Pal, which I grabbed for a friend who has been jealous of mine and on the hunt for one for several years.

I also grabbed some brass and bullets, as well as a 3-pack of "**** off a Liberal, buy a gun" bumper stickers.

I was there first thing in the morning for a couple hours, then went back again late in the afternoon at which time I was able to have some great conversation with some of the vendors.

Overall a very good day.

one was a 22-250....didn't slow down going by, but looked good for the glance i gave it. other one looked ok too, but didn't give it much more than a glance either.......guess i've moved on.....for the price there's not even a remote chance i'd but one. why would you when you can buy a new, real nice gun for nearly the same price?

I’ve quit going to shows. Way overpriced. If you need something, it can usually be found on cgn. Cheaper even with shipping.
I guess that’s why they’re called gun shows instead of gun sales.

Yes 700$ is definitely up there for chancing a used gun.

I was at the Camrose show yesterday, and as I expected, my only expenditure was my entry. There were way more lever actions than I expected, plenty of SKS rifles, and a lot of overpriced junk. There was almost nothing in reloading supplies either, so it came down to visiting with friends for a bit.

I like looking at the stuff at gun shows, talking to the people there. Been to quite a few that I didn't buy much, if anything. Been to some I spent a lot at, usually on odds and ends, occasionally on a gun. Never know what you will see until you look, always learn something new. Think maybe I've bought 5 guns in 35yrs of going to them. Mostly reloading supplies, moulds, the odd scope, various nefarious gizmos and parts, t-shirts.

Default gems

I found a few rifles that I mulled over, and the prices were quite reasonable on.
A Lee Speed (obviously in .303) in about the nicest condition I have seen for a lowly 795.00. Went back and looked that one over at least three times. The seller hesitated when I started haggling a bit, and if it were me, I would take it home too if I couldn't get at least that price. The bore was "OK" , and all of the flip-up ramp sites were crisp as the day they were installed. I'll probably regret not taking it home with me.
A model 1895 lever in 30-40. One of the most common calibers in this model, but the gun was really solid. No cracks in the stock, or fixed areas. The bore was "good" (pristine compared to some on these models I have seen), and best of all the seller seemed really motivated to sell, as he said the price was very negotiable, even with a starting price of only 850.00!
A winchester model 70 "super grade" in 300 HH. Beautiful stock with only a few very minor "safe-dings", and the super-grade inset sling swivels. Offered with two boxes of the original old winchester superX ammo, rings and mounts for 1350. I thought this was very reasonable for the package, but I waffled soley on the fact that this was not the gun's original caliber. The original caliber was removed and new caliber stamped over in a recessed cut in the barrel. All of the custom work was very well done, and the action and trigger had been nicely reworked and trued. I walked away just knowing that somewhere down the line I would lust for an original in this caliber, and hopefully even find a "pre-64" to add to my collection.
I am fighting off hitting the three digit count in my collection, so I have been extremely fussy on anything I bring home. Almost proud of coming home empty handed this time

how do you figure they're worth 500 bucks when they were 125 new? wth is collectable about them? mine shot really well, but wouldn't hold a candle quality wise with my t3......t3 has better bolt/trigger/fit/accuracy....it's better than the 788 in every way and i'd gladly pay the difference in price. the 788 is a club compared to lots of other guns i've held.

the gevarm was never a nice gun and would never shoot well either. 700 bucks for a 100 dollar gun?

i realize there are collectors out there, but for heavens sake, doesn't anyone actually collect NICE, good quality guns?

i buy my federal, blue box 525's for 28 bucks a box and the best i could see at the gun show was a 'gun show special' @34.00. down the aisle they were going for 40!

The 788 is one of those rifles that has appreciated greatly, even if there is nothing superior about the design. Some people would gladly pay $500 for a 788, and would never buy any rifle unless it had a wooden stock and chrome moly barreled action.

I prefer stainless/synthetic big game rifles myself, but I was happy to take $400 for my father's 788, when he quit hunting, about 20 years ago. He paid less than $200 for the rifle/scope, when he bought it.

I was looking at that knife! Super unique- worn sheath. Knew it would move.

The best deals at a gun show is about 2 hrs before the doors open.

It's been a long time since I actually bought something at a gun show as most things to me seem way overpriced and near full retail but I still go to a few just to have a look around and chat with people, the small town gun shows are best, senlac comes to mind ............. the home baked pies are worth the drive

Two years ago I was lucky and picked up a Hunter's Pal at our local gun show. It's a newer model with no lanyard hole, it's a beautiful and handy knife. I would love to find a vintage one. Hickok45 did a short video on his Hunter's Pal.

Thanks for the video link, I haven't seen that one, will watch it later on.

I agree about the Hunters Pal, it is a great little knife.

Yes, the sheath is quite nice on this one, very dark leather with a pronounced Puma head on it, someone has replaced the stitching with a red thread which looks really sharp as well.

I picked it up from a fellow named Keith, after standing there and talking with him for quite awhile. I looked down to get money out of my wallet for another purchase from him and there it was.

I did stop by for a boo as well. Once again blown away by prices. I’m not an old gun collector so most what I looked at was newer. A good 200$ over retail was the norm.
O and about 7 lefty rifles total

And it’s funny. It’s not new sellers at these shows. It’s the same guys from 20 years ago!!!

Default Neat find!

I found a Schultz and Larsen M61 22lr, Olympic free style. Looked in great shape, weighs about 15 lbs, and came home with it for less than $600. It has a 1" 28" barrel, S&L's target sites, shoulder hook and scope blocks. Put a Bushnell 4.5X30 scope on it and pulled off a 0.175", 5 shot group at 50m Dyna point GT 40gr ammo. I am happy. I got several lots of some Eley Tennex ammo to see what this gun can really do.

Original cost of a 788 is irrelevant.
It is worth what someone will pay.
Price is set by willing buyer, willing seller.
