Default NAFA February Auction

Am I reading this right? If so, what an excellent auction! Look at some of those prices, coyotes, mink, sable... everything looks like it went up except beaver, which sucks. $73 average for coyotes. Let's hope this is a trend and get's fur prices back up where they belong.

Congratulations to NAFA! Job well done.

It should be a good May sale as far as May sales can be measured yet, but don't look for this to carry over on the coyotes into next season. Everybody and their dog will be killing coyotes and we will see a grotesque over-harvest again.

Beaver who knows, supply and demand, nobody killing beaver for this spring, expect very good castor prices. Next year we will probably flood the rat market, but everything else might be kosher. Our marten should be a safe bet again next year.

The fur market is soooo predictable. It's easy.

Having a little trouble with your quote about everybody and their dog will be killing coyotes again and a "gross over harvest"...please explain?

Not too tough. When the price on coyotes skyrockets, so does the production of coyotes. North America does not produce the same number of coyotes annually, it fluctuates widely, dependent upon price.

So next year, there will be so many people out wanting to get $70 coyotes, a glut will quickly develop. Then price goes down the tubes... to the septic tank.

The $70 coyote price will be limited to the first months of 2011 only.

I'm not so sure that coyote prices will flatten out.

Worldwide textile fashion trends are increasingly including real fur for trim, and coyotes seem to be the #1 choice. Part of the marketing of coyote fur to the general public is based on it's sustainability and that it is WILD.

There is a strong and growing acceptance in the general urban populace for wild fur.
