Its Alberta. Dress for the climate and buy a vehicle for the climate. No joke......

They still haven't done mine yet. Pretty hard on the front end because the car just doesn't want to turn and if you don't give it lots of gas, you're stuck because the ruts are so deep.

The Range road in front of my acreage sometimes isn't plowed for a week or ten days after a heavy snow fall. Biggest problem is that the school bus driver (rightly) then refuses to come down and risk getting stuck. This leads to my nephew either missing school, or a rip-roaring trip through the drifts in 4wd.

The next Range Road east has no houses on it, but usually gets plowed within a day or two of snowfalls. The county hires nothing but retired rocket scientists and brain surgeons on sabbatical for the Roads department!

My mom lived a few miles out of town on the farm. They walked to school, (relatively flat ground both ways) unless it was really cold. In which case my grandpa would fire up the stove in the old caboose and hitch up the horses to take the kids to school. Mom looks back on those days with fond memories.

My sister-in laws dad was telling us a few years ago of the snow machine they built back in the day to haul kids to school or get people to the hospital if need be. Sounded like a pretty neat machine.

The good old days.

I'll never understand why people in neighbourhoods don't
pool their money together, buy a decent 4x4 truck & plow and
say h*ll with the stupid system of leaving 5cm on the streets
by having their own community type truck..

Good thing I have a large snow blower. Did part of the neighbors to the west of me (Corner lot). Did the neghbore to the east of me and mine. All clear now for the neighbores across and down the street to park in front of my house. LOL.
Ever see a speed plow try to clear the windrow infront of a driveway? Almost needed a couple of beers and popcorn. Very entertaining!
City website says our neighbourhood is done.

Tell that to the folks plowing through a foot of oatmeal today.

I think some of these guys are sl;acking off then ticking the box hoping that nobody catches em.

Same thing every year sonce we bought in 2000.

I wrote them and enquired.

If they blow me off I'm gonna kick up a stink.

I'm sick of a citey government that can only find my street when they are handing out new tax assessments.

You would get fined for that in Edmonton. LOL Can't put snow on the road and can't remove it with a plow your self.

My neighbore across the street from me and myself allways blow the snow off the road in front of our houses and we do the neighbores on each side of us too. One year when a blizzard hit Ed. I went with the snow blower all around the block twice and cleared the city walks for everyone on both sides of the street. Only took me an hr or so and one tank of gas. Nice having a good snowblower, need some chains on the tires though. Dosn't like pushing through the windrow that the speed plow left, without chains.

Well, it's Sunday and my crescent's still not done. It was scheduled for Nov 28 as per the city's snow removal website. I see now that it's re-scheduled for today. I sure hope they do it because by what they are saying on the news, if we get that big dump of snow today we're screwed. The snow and ruts are deep enough as it is.

Hate to say it, but Red Deers no better. Speaking of my son's crescent, when they finally get around to it, they'll plow the snow to one side, leaving it till Spring, effectively cutting the parking to one side only, with a narrow driving lane.

The primary reason for a road is to drive on not park on, that's what driveways and garages are for.

That's insanity at it's worst reigning!
What's the fine?..be curious to read the adventures
of people's stories & getting such fines.
Though, it seems extremely low odds getting busted/some dude
driving around trying to spot people doing such things
during a snowstorm/handing out these fines.

I think a couple years ago some guy got hammered pretty bad by the RCMP (?? I think) for using his quad to plow the sidewalks and his older neighbours driveway or something like that.

...and ticket dropped.. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle4258014/ ... after $30,000 in legal fees.

"Bonk"
(Jaw hitting the floor!!)
$30G's,maybe it's best to put up with all the UNplowed roads after all,
almost as if the mafia has taken over the snowplowing services too!

The down side of that is that the city would find a way of hammering ya.
Remember the guy with the quad a couple years ago?

Really ? Thought that's why they put parking lanes on each side, but then, maybe you're thinking of new subdivisions.

idiots plowed our street a few days ago, or should i say , they buried all the vehicles and driveways behind a 2 foot high windrow . good thing i have a snow blower and good neighbors ,we cleaned it up pretty quick but i wish they would just not come around at all , they make more of a mess than anything.

Stop being a dumb arse, it's the only option in many areas.

Not the cities problem if you can't park on the road unfortunately. I have a double garage and 2 car pad in front of it.

Actually, the city is intimately involved in allowing and regulating parking on roads. They sign it, have bylaws concerning it, will ticket you if you leave a vehicle parked in the same place too long. Parking is an important aspect and benefit of road building and regulation in cities. You are a little confused, so stop poking swifty with a stick.

I understand what your saying but in a snow storm or blizzard Parkin on the street goes to the bottom of the priority list.

How absurd...they won't plow your roads and if you do it yourself you can be fined?? Somebody in city hall needs a kick in the get a brain dept.

I have lived in a lot of places over the years and I don't remember ever not having a parking stall. I remember paying extra for another stall.
