Default Where to get good tire chains - Edmonton area

Title says it all

There's been a lot of talk about tire chains with all the snow we've gotten, and after driving on Wab this weekend, I've decided that I should get on the trolley.

So where would one go to obtain said tire chains?

Chains can cause a lot of damage if not installed correctly or if a cross link comes apart will you are driving. I think you would be way further ahead putting really good agressive winter tires on your Jeep. That being said Greggs would be a good starting place for chains.

Unfortunately just a few months ago I dropped around $1200 on new all seasons for the Jeep, and in town they're not bad, but they're not so hot when I'm pushing the snow with my bumper If it was in the budget I'd really like to get a set of steel rims and some good winter tires, but at least this winter it's just not in the cards.

Dammit...I just did a little homework, and my manual states that on my particular model (Sahara) the wheel spacing doesn't give enough clearance to allow chains, unless you add spacers

Anybody have any idea what spacers are worth?

They carry everything from industrial to personal.
I have 12.5 X 36" tires and ended up making custom chains for mine. But they're bullet proof, easy to put on, have never come off.

I picked up a new set of V-bar chains from these guys last week. www.canadianchains.ca/
Free shipping via DHL and they showed up in less than 48 hours.
It cost me $235 including tax for a set of HD chains to fit my 285x75-16s.

There are different kinds of spacers and different metal used ! and a few pros and cons of using them! I would start a different thread and you might get some hard core 4x4 guys which have used them ! just my 2 cents !!!

Hey Rocky, I spotted that outfit and wondered what they were like. That sounds like a great price and really fast service too. Those chains, do they have cross chains every second, or every fourth link? How heavy were they?

Yeah I was super impressed with the speed of getting them. Being that these are for 285's they are every 4 links. I have seen a lot of big truck chains in my day and have to say that these are as good as any I have ever come across. For truck chains would rate these as HD quality. Its tough to tell from my pic, but the V's are pretty agressive also.

Sorry guys, we're kind of taking over this thread.

Rocky, those are good looking chains, & they come with tighteners too.

The chains I made have cross chains every 2 links. They were a lot of work to make. And I spent far more than you did. If I need chains, I'll give that outfit a look, thanks.

I got mine from midfield. Used them on several occasions, from roads covered in freezing rain to chewing my way through the mud. Think they cost $100 ish

X 3. Bought tractor chains there as well, ($800.00) shipped from YVR to YYC no problem!
