I have Telus Satellite. I switch over from Shaw Direct (Star Choice) when we moved. The PVR is nowhere near as good as Shaw's. Channel selection is not quite as good, but better HD service with more channels at no extra cost. Bundled with home phone and Internet and saving about $30/month from before.
So far I am satisfied, but not overly happy with them yet. Was hoping for Optix TV but they didn't offer it at the time. Installation was ok, fixed the problems the first guy screwed up.
Call them instead and get a person in Canada, not one of their outsourced robo dialling companies and see what they can do for you. Probably get a better deal then the robodialled one.

Excuse me while I go puke.

Wish I had stuck with Bell.
The installed butchered the house to the point my wife told him to stop and leave, when he refused she called the police, then he left under escort.
Telus then tried to send the same clown out the next day to finish the install. After 3 days of phone combat they finally sent out another guy who was so mortified by what had been done he called in someone way up the food chain.
They fixed the 2" hole through the wall that nitwit #1 bored to get the cable inside the house, more or less.
Apart from the rocky start I guess it is ok, as someone else mentioned the PVR is no screamin hell.
I may still go back to Bell or Shaw for TV and net, probably will ditch the landline phone though.

When we moved to small town southern Alberta, we got Telus satellite - more or less due to the lack of other options. We have it bundled with the internet and have their 'Popular' package - we probably pay too much, but the majority of the channels we watch aren't included in their 'Basic' package (sports, Discovery, History, Food, etc).
We haven't had any issues with it, but coming from Telus Optik in the city it was certainly a down grade. If you have a choice between satellite and Optik, take Optik, but I suspect you don't have the choice.
They constantly have deals available for when you sign up. The best thing to do is browse their website, and see what deal works best for you. Some deals may offer you a lowered bill for 6 months, or a free laptop, or free TV, etc. When we signed up, there was a deal out there where if we signed up for 3 years with satellite and internet, we got a free 42" LG Smart TV.
All in all, fairly happy with what we've got.

I switched from Bell sat to Telus Optik a couple of years ago. I'm glad I made the change. I have everything bundled with Telus and they threw in a BlackBerry Torch with a good plan at $35/month for 3 years.
*Although, a Telus rep called back after the first $35 payment. I was sent a bill for $70 and called Telus immediately to have them correct it to $35 a month as promised. When the rep called and said, "Oh, we don't offer that deal." I told her, "Than have someone stop by my house right now to pick up this phone and everything Telus just installed in my house." She called back and informed me that in fact they just so happen to offer that deal.
My sister has Telus sat. She said as far as she can tell it's much the same as Optik as far as picture and audio quality go. But the guild just looks a little different. And when weather storms go through she sometimes loses signal.
I'll never go back to Bell for anything though. Take a solid look at their policies. Whether or not you have a term contract for their services, they have a little surprise for you when you decide to end your business with them.

Had Bell once. Took 3 hours on the phone to cancel. Then they kept sending bills, then they said I had a credit but I had to write a letter to get the credit paid out. The last person I spoke with I told in no uncertain terms that I wished Bell would go bankrupt. In almost 60 years of life for me Bell clearly wins the prize for the absolute worst customer service on earth. I wouldn't take their product if they offered it free. Was I clear enough!

As soon as you or any soon to be non-customer mentions that they'd like to discontinue with their service you'll receive the worst service they have to offer. Expect to be on the phone for the next 2 hours at minimum.
During the 2 hours of snotty disconnection service, they'll tell you that though you're not on a term contract with them, there will still be some disconnection fees along with a further full months charges (even after disconnection) of what you would normally pay. Literally, their policy is to charge you money for services they will no longer be rendering to you.
For the next three months after disconnection they will send bills. One full month, one partial month and one for a few dollars that will be for some made up fee just to peeve you off.
I've forgotten most of their disconnection policies. But I've remembered enough to know that I will never go back.
When I had bell sat installed they had no such policy to charge extra months worth of money after services have been completely disconnected. The policy had changed a few months prior to me switching to Telus. I'm guessing much had changed in those few prior months because bell sat went downhill in a short time to the point where I couldn't wait to switch. I bet bell policies have become even more greasy.
