Default Fha

Dave thanks for posting, looks encouraging even at $50 for XL marten, better muskrat prices and beaver. Maybe their is some light at end of the tunnel, should help to pay for my sled engine repair.

That was decent of them, typically they'd wait until the next sale to pay you out for pt. I wonder if it's a coincidence that local buyers are just starting the buying process? Maybe fha thought they better compete better than they did last year. Send out some money and a juicy letter about how deadly the April sale is gonna be.

If I were still trapping, I'd go all out.

I fully expect all restrictions gone by the end of March, despite what the experts say.

No I don't know more then the experts, but I'm confident I have figured out why they are saying what they are.

I believe Covid is real, I believe it is worse then SARS. And I believe the scientists were convinced it would be worst then the 1918 pandemic, but it is not and now they know it. Now they want out.

Mark my words, this will go away faster then anyone could imagine.

The next auction could be a barn burner. Expect prices to shoot way up as buyers fight to restock their supplies.

Sounds encouraging eh? Fur buyers are doom and gloom and buying based on last year’s auction prices. FHA is optimistic touting a bounce back and the potential of bigger bucks. I think that last year was the bottom and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. We’ll see I guess.

Last year I sold my higher end coyotes (roughly half) to a local buyer for an outstanding average and my lower grades went to auction for a $76 average. By hedging my bets I did reasonably well, all things considered, and way Better than if I had put all my eggs in one basket.

This year everything is going to auction. I’m pretty sure that I can make the same at auction as what buyers are offering and if there’s a recovery I don’t want to miss the party. Risk vs reward.

Just my opinion and no crystal balls involved.

In general they appear to be letting poorer grade marten at poor prices sell. FHA seems to protect the better grades/ larger marten and not let them go for fire sale prices at this time.

If I read my letter right, the money was an advance on the furs that I have sitting at FH and not the full payment. They are doing this to help trappers with financial problems. Much appreciated.

i get that and its a nice gesture, but if i sold say 500 in fur why would they only send me 300 of it? Are they keeping the rest to pay their bills or whats the purpose?

I don’t think they have sold yet and they are giving us an advance on what they hope they will sell for. Once they sell we will the rest. Edmonton fur auction and NAFA use to do this back in the day.

Well we shall see how FHA does for me, partial load for them. Glad to get the room. Always amazes me how much fur fits in a bag.

I sent some too, roll the dice and see what happens... sold some kyode's froze-whole, sent a few in for tanning that I want to hang onto, and sent the bit bigger package out for auction. Tried spreading it around a bit because of the uncertainties these days. I really don't like selling frozen-whole (but) a few in the pocket is better than everything up in limbo since the floor fell outta this thing last time around. That's what I figure.

Seems to be lots of hype bottled up for an auction though, if the auction actually flies. Sure wish the -rona would **** off so we could get on with it.

Undecided what I'll do with my later-stuff from here on through the rest of season.

Apreading mine around too whiskey willow ,some to FHA yesterday and a bunch still here for a buyer to check out ..if I dont like his price they will all go to second auction ...Talked with Mary in Winnipeg, she aounded quite upbeat that auction would be a hit and advised that if folks dont aupport auction to a certain extent that we will all be at the mercy of private buyers

Last year I hedged my bets and sold some to buyers and sent some to auction. This year I’m putting all my eggs in one basket and sending all my coyotes to auction. I think that the risk is worth the potential reward. If international buyers can travel to attend the auction LOOK OUT.....BARN BURNER! If not, I don’t think that auction prices will be much different than what what buyers are offering. Low risk for a high reward. That’s my thinking but who knows?

Ideally one carefully considers what is happening in the market. Is anybody actually getting any orders?

(Hint.... The competition is very quiet/non-existent in the western USA)

Consideration #2, does anybody think the borders will open anytime soon when our covid numbers are 10x (???) worse than last year

All eyes in Jan 20th... will there be an inauguration???

Or other?

😈

I hope not tho... honestly, I want FHA to have a killer sale, get back to $150 coyotes again... Italy back in with their retail inventories all burnt-ed
up and screaming for kiyutes... even yucky, filthy Kansas and New Mexico dawgs!!!

Don’t think we are there yet tho, far from it.

But we have us a very willing customer, hence the country bullish.

Marty, do I sense desperation?

Trying to scare people into selling to you?

Go to bed.

I sold some to Brian Finlayson from Millet the other day. He is always fair and honest. I was happy with the result.
