Default Hunter missing near Sundre

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - A search in the Sundre area for a missing hunter from Calgary will resume Tuesday morning.
RCMP Sergeant Patrick Webb says an RCMP helicopter was used Monday, as well as ground search teams.
He adds the cold weather is definitely playing a factor in the search.
The missing Calgary man is about 50-years-old and was believed to be hunting alone when he was reported missing by a friend at about 8pm Sunday.

Here's a bit of an update.........

Search for missing hunter continues

POSTED AT 12:21 PM Tuesday, November 27
Rescue crews are searching for a missing hunter just west of Sundre.

The hunter went missing on Sunday around 8:30 p.m. in the Yaha Tinda Area approximately 50 kilometres west of Sundre.
Officials say when the hunter didn’t return at the agreed upon time of 2:00 p.m. his hunting partner went on a search for him and found his vehicle.
But he couldn’t find the missing hunter.
Officials say the missing man is very familiar with the area and is considered to be an avid hunter.
The 51-year-old Calgary man has no known medical conditions.
It is believed he is equipped to handle the current climate.
Search teams began looking for the man on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
The RCMP helicopter and service dog are also assisting in the search.
Officials say they looked over a one-kilometre area in each direction but it is covered with very thick and heavy brush.
Crews returned to search the area again on Tuesday but so far have had no success in finding any trace of the man.
The family has requested the man’s name not be released as they have requested more time to notify family members who are not from the Calgary area.

BigNix under the lost thread said the hunter was found dead. Apparantly a grizzly protecting a deer carcass got him. My thots and prayers go out to the family if this is the case.

Body Of Missing Hunter Found Near Sundre
Nov, 28 2007 - 3:10 PM

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - An extensive ground and air search near Sundre has been ended with sad news.
Human remains have been found in the area where a Calgary hunter was reported to be missing.
At approximately noon Wednesday, human remains were located by ground searches in a thickly wooded area approximately 200 meters from the vehicle belonging to a hunter who had been reported as overdue late Sunday.
The remains have been tentatively identified as that of 51-year-old Don Allan Peters of Calgary.
Positive identification will not be possible until after an examination by the Medical Examiner Officer expected Thursday.
This area was not a primary search area and although it had been visually searched by ground and air searchers, the remains were not located until a detailed and close ground search was instituted today through the dense bush.

Wow, my thoughts go out to his family. 200 yards away from his vehicle, that is harsh........Lets all take a piece of this and apply it to our own safety out there.

Default Condolences...

My sincere condolences go out to the family & friends of Don Allan Peters of Calgary (according to earlier posts - the hunter killed by Sundre).

Many of us on this site are out there by ourselves often enough, and this could easily have been any one of us! Can't imagine what the family is going through!

Out of respect of this forever lost hunter, I have deleted my previous signature

Hunter

Tragic stuff. We were Elk hunting in the area until Saturday afternoon. We were talking to a trapper there, and he figured all the bears were asleep. Guess not.
