Default Good God the grouse are doing well.

Bagged out, and missed about the many again.

Anyone else notice that numbers are up?

Likely taken 60 or so grouse this year. A noticeable change in my areas did I wipe them out no but moving on practicing some conservation.

No bird truck drops off ruffys.

We were out for elk a week ago. Didn't want to shoot any birds until our time was almost up. We were stepping all over the damn birds, you swear the ground was moving sometimes. When we finally decided to go after them they all vanished, like farts in the wind. I think it was the change in the weather. We decided to close up mom and dads camp a couple days early, just before the rain hit to keep all the canvas dry. We scored a handful, but all of us were expecting to limit out on the last morning.

No doubt. Can't walk anywhere without a chicken chirping or flapping away. One thing I've noticed, I'm seeing way more in the bush than on the roads. Only seen 2 on the road, over 100 in the bush. Good but makes it dang hard to focus on deer hunting, I had to leave the shotgun at home this week

Where the hell are you guys going!?! I've been out every weekend since the season opened (wmu 314) and I see maybe one a day, IF I'm out all day. I've only taken 2 all season!

Grouse had a good year. One little cutline i walk down an hour before sunset, you could get your limit daily. Not sure where they all come from.

They are unbeatable for good eats. My family hunts and eats dozens every year.

This is the third year around my area that the #s are up - WAY up. Its almost silly how many we see.

I almost consider it a fail if we don't get at least one limit everytime we go out....

506 is dead as a doornail for grouse action, only one harvested so far after numerous strolls in the bush…

While I don't hunt them, I too have seen very few this year here in 506.

Yes i use Rem Semi-auto 597 .22 Long Rifle with American Eagle 38gr hollow point

Also friends use shotguns .. 12 gauge and .410 gauge and .22's

also teaching the younger hunters the art of grouse hunting extreme

Bill uses a .410 double barrel sometimes but has a Cooey .22 too

I try to do head shots

I have a Bushnell 4x power scope on it

we are not seeing much right on lease roads but lots just off roads/trails

we get grouse jerky made up

can't beat a grouse supper

fun times for shooting fans

David

Absolutely yes....great fun wingshooting grouse, either on a solo stroll or over a good dog!A .22 is fun for pickn heads off when there's lotsa birds as described here, but you'll miss out on a lot of flushing shot opps.

That's a Remington. He's good with the "assault .22".

For now at least...

Default Good god

Don't get me wrong, but why does someone have to shoot over 60 grouse in a season. Why not go out and catch a limit of perch every weekend all summer long, or shoot a deer for every possible tag that is available?

Default It was a good day

Bagged 4 yesterday, first time I've gotten any after being out for walks 4x this year. 3 ruffies and a spruce, my first bunch of grouse ever, as this is my first year hunting.

Such an amazing feeling, bringing home something for the family. They were quite easy to deal with too, now to see if the kids will eat and like them.
