Another thing, read the whole written story from the guy attacked. He was attacked multiple times and had a side arm but was unable to use it.

He was good enough to make a video about it so id say after running into a grizz with two cubs the spray did well. Hope he recovers well.

From how I read it, He chose the bear spray in the first attack and failed to have his pistol in hand after it finished and he was leaving. In the second attack he saw the bear to late to draw. It was only during the second attack that he lost his pistol. The first time, I suppose he could defend his choice. But knowing the spray is gone, why would he not have his gun out? Gotta know that bear isn't far off.

Further to the point, if one is so sure about the presence of bears to be yelling "hey bear" all the time, it would seem prudent to have a loaded rifle at hand. Guy got very lucky. Hope he heals up well.

Wow, lucky to be alive and able to walk out 3 miles. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. I would bet in the moment and after surviving the first attack he might not have all his wits about him and having an adrenaline dump. Could have been a whole lot worse for sure.

Just read he was from Montana. He is very lucky to be alive.

Been seeing more grizzly tracks than wolf now in Alberta....Never walking alone in bear country. Had one near miss .

From what I understand anything west of hwy 2, from the US border and up is potential bear country now...

Guns don't always work, spray doesn't always work, shooting your buddy in the knee cap doesn't always work...on and on and on...fat friend smeared in bacon grease carrying pockets full of salmon with the bear cub wrapped in his luvin arms gets all the attention away from you now that is for sure!

Is it true that all Bear Spray sold in Canada is limited to 1% of the active ingredient (Capsicum)? In the US it is 2%.
Not sure if there is a big difference in actual effectiveness but it seems strange that Canada has placed a limit on the content.

Nothing on Google that I can find.

As long as we save the bear we have been successful.

I will say this. I have lived and hunted in bear country my entire life. I have never felt threatened by them. That is changing. There is a serious bear problem brewing in this province. A problem that has been predicted for years.

This event and others would be less common if and when they bring back a limited hunt.

There cant be many, if any bears left now that were alive when hunting was allowed.

We all take our chances when we venture into bear country. That range is expanding past the foothills and onto the edges of land where bears have been unseen or unheard of for generations.

He is a tough guy and very lucky to be alive.

And you know why, not shot at in thier direction, not hunted etc I tell ya we get soft with the yotes around here the buggers get aggressive, after a few fallen comrades they know the sound of a quad or truck or people talking means potential death so they bugger off and we live in harmony.
This goes for bears too they are adaptive not stupid!

Back when the hunt was on, it was like 50 tags with a 1% fill ratio if I remember the numbers right. That would not make a difference in whats going on.

I think half the problem is 3 times as many people here now with less land equals more chance of bears meeting people. Just my opinion.

Hope the guy heals fast, one tough man.

Back when the hunt was on , grizzly knew that a human meant business and soon learned and taught their cubs the same .. Way different now, the video on this thread is another example of the sow teaching the cubs what ? go eat that guy ? ... G bears in Alberta are over crowded and therefore getting a bad temperament even with each other and that spills over to human contact ... Nowadays those 50 tags would be a 40 % fill ratio... the brave ones go first .....

40% not likely. If she wanted to teach them to eat that guy he would have been eaten. Bad temperament? You know anything about our woods. Since I was a kid I was taught last place you want to be is around a sow with cubs. These are risks we take being in their country. Almost every attack over the last while has been the same situation. Those 3 running together down in pincher is concerning but sow defending cubs is part of the risk we take being in bear country.

some sows need to be shot ..... on the second and third attacks it's 3 strikes you're OUT ... especially when teachin 2 or 3 cubs .. think about it ....that's the generation we're in ... bears with no fear and cubs are smart buggers ...
