We had 2 tags outside the base last year and had a great time.Stayed on and hunted a large ranch. They were great people and helped us with getting to know the area.We didn't get overly huge elk but a couple nice 6 x 6's.PM me if want to know any of the details of our hunt.

Default Outside

The outside hunt this year was pretty quiet. from the local pictures taken the biggest Elk I saw taken was 365 and that is about it. I have been inside plenty due to work and the biggest I have seen inside would be that 375 but they a few and far between. I think we are down to 300 or better will turn into a shooter. As far as cows go there are plenty roaming around outside. They have been seen as far away as Highway 36 north of Taber.

Maybe those elk are smarter that people thought, and they have dispersed.
Might be a pleasant result of this fiasco, lol.

There has been a couple taken that would pop an eyeball or two. Most wouldn't be very happy about who shot them though. When I'm asked to keep photos to myself I oblige...though in this case I would like to expose the truth. Not enough to risk getting passed over next time pics are sent out.

I used my priority 7.

Stats on My Wild Alberta show 50% of the priority 6 and 100% of the priority 7 got it and a total of 100 bull tags were given out.

A single tag each for a priority 16, 15 and 14 were also issued out of the 100 tags.

So it looks like the Suffield hunt, inside and out, was successfull in demolishing high elk priorities then? When I drew September season outside the base, about 3 seasons ago, it took a priority of 12 I believe, to be guaranteed a tag.
So were you successful on your hunt?

My gf got the second hunt on the inside with a 3 or 4. Last year I got drawn at a 9. It was an 8 or higher I believe last year.

Was only looking at outside the base, as those hunts have been well underway for a month and a half.

I hunted first season off base for the first couple weeks of Sept. Killed a 350" bull and know of a few others in that caliber that were killed doubt we seen a bull over 380". know 4 others that have been down in early October never seen a good bull. She's not looking good. late July i had seen some really good bulls but a good majority of them were killed mid august by The (Susistance hunters) again.

We were priority 8 and really didn't expect to get them. Not sure how the hunting will be.

Default Elk

At the end of Sept I was hunting antelope on the north east of the base (outside) with a guy that spends a ton of time there. He said he would see hundreds of elk where we were in the past couple years and in two and a half days we didn't see a single elk. Spent the afternoons walking river valleys and patches of bush looking for Mule Deer and nothing. I think their plan is working.
