Default Hunting vs Killing???

Some people like to hunt (or fish) for sport.

Some people hunt prey for food.

Some people trophy hunt.

Some people just get off on killing things.

These are each different definitions.

So... which face are you and explain your position.

I think if you scratched off "killing things" that 95% of the people would say a combination of everything.

We all kill things, that's how we manage to survive on this planet. Not much of a hunt for those vegetables though

Morels are hard to find, but boy are they worth the effort!
As for liking killing: one can have a fetish that they enjoy on a weird level or like myself, one can take pride and care in properly harvesting the animal to ensure a quick and painless death. As it is the initial step towards putting good meat on the table I'd have to say that I like it a lot.

You can't seperate hunting from killing. Without intent to kill it is simply wildlife viewing and not hunting.

I hunt for the love of hunting, I really do not get a thrill from the kill but it is part of the game. I won't shoot it if I can't eat it. As for the trophy thing, well I have shot some nice ones and I have shot some small ones, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it depends on how I feel when the situation arises.

Your position appears to be that you have no life with nothing better to do than belittle someone that can think faster than you. Sit back for a month or two and try to think of something that you could contribute to this forum. When you finally decide that you don't know anything you can go watch cartoons. So if your wondering what I am getting to it could be that you may be a loser and haven't quite figured it out yet. Now go and have a nice day wiener.

The "Just like to kill" phrase gets some of us, and there is probably a better way to phrase it in a less purely negative light. So let's jettison that one.

But there are guys who enjoy shooting animals and have no intent to use the animal in any way, meat, fur or feather, trophy, whatever. They just shoot and leave the animal there. Most of us have probably done it at one time. I'm not talking about poaching. I'm talking about animals where it is legal to do so. What would be the proper or most accurate phrase to describe that branch of hunting?

As a fairly new hunter I am definitely in it for the fun of the hunt, the thrill of being outdoors and then if I am lucky and can harvest an animal, then I am happy to put food on the table. A trophy was never anything I cared about. I am not going to sit in a forest and pass on an animal because it wont look good on my wall.

For me - it's visceral. The hands-on aspect of providing food for my family table.

As to the original question, I'm a meat hunter. I don't shoot anything I don't want to eat. But if I can get a trophy in the process, that's a welcome bonus. While I didn't used to, I now hold off shooting young males. I guess that skews me more towards trophy a bit, but honestly, I do it more for others. Wouldn't bother me to take a young male for meat.

These are different definitions of what?

I can't be bothered to feign an interest in your position as I don't believe you hunt anywhere other than online.

Once again you are insulting members of this forum. Unlike yours, Bighorn1's analysis is likely very accurate.

the two best responses in the thread. actually the very best would be to completely ignore garbage like this.

some days I wish the ALBERTA OUTDOORSMEN forum was descriptive of what goes on here and the people involved, and maybe could be enforced, rather than just a name of a forum where anything goes no matter how off topic.

My post was not necessarily meant as an insult but more of an eye opener.
Mtn Giant has a right to post things that he feels are legitimate questions. I happen to agree with him, if you don't that is your right. That being said there is nor reason to insult him by calling him a troll. If you don't like his posts, move on to the next one, or put him on your ignore list. Perhaps your eyes need opening as well.

You and some other's obviously don't understand the meaning of this thread?
And that's ok....intelligence is not a prerequisite to own a firearm obviously.
And you prove it each time you open your mouth.

Read Pincherguys comments for further enlightenment.

It's not an arguement thread....it's about the definition of shooting purposes.

Some people only target practice and don't hunt at all.
And others don't practice...they just shoot animals.

Your pretty small minded bambi.

If you feel that this is a garbage thread why get involved in it? You have some good advice to offer in some of your posts and your way out in left field on others. Your out of line on this one.
