Default specs flying over tonight!!

We were sitting around a fire tonight around 9pm and a flock of about 50 specs flew over!!! It seems a little early to me to see them this far south ...stettler area this early.......is this a sign of an early fall??

Default Autumn harbinger

60 plus large Canadas on the first harvested field at the University of Saskatchewan for the last week now.

It does get one thinking that Autumn is just around the corner.

Most years the first specks show up in late August,,, we have killed quite a few specks some years on the Sept 1 opener. Typically the first specks are mostly mature birds that do not have any young birds in tow. Last year in early Sept, 15 of 16 specks taken were mature birds which had me a bit worried about the speck hatch,,, but we ended up with one of the best speck years ever,,, and we were still hunting specks into early November well north of Stettler.

Thumbs up

Cranes spotted almost 2 weeks ago around here. Only a couple small groups. Definitely a few weeks early.

Word around here is early fall. Birds were here very early last year as well. We were full of snows last week of September, usually just the first trickle by then.

Painting up SS and White Rock's this week. Have to test drive the 9 bird rotary as well

Some fairly large flocks already feeding around Keho and East of Lethbridge.

The dog see's them sitting in the field as we drive by and tries to open the door.

It looks like a great Pea year and they still haven't figured out how to thresh peas with out leaving most of it behind - the Ducks are going to get fat out there!
