Default FISH identification

Caught this little guy up in Waiperous creek. Just trying to properly ID it as I'm relatively new to trout fishing and the guides are unhelpful.

Released him safely but had a lot of fun.

I'm thinking a small cutthroat? But did not see the orange on its lower jaw

Most likely a cutthroat, did you catch him after 2pm?

Awesome, welcome to the world of trout. We’re lucky to have such scenic places to catch them in this province.

I’m sure you already know, but in case you didn’t, time of day angling restrictions are in effect in ES1. Check out this link with more information :

We need to do what we can as anglers to protect this resource. Good luck out there

Cutthroats have more spotting towards tail and less towards the head - this fish has a pretty even amount of spotting suggesting it's a Rainbow ...... but from that picture ..... it's hard to tell.

^that.
Although it looks like more spots towards the tail on the side. Need better pic, glad you kept it in the water in doubt.

Quick trick I learned with TU:
White spots: brook or bull (bull has no marking on dorsal fin)
Black dots: rainbow, cutthroat (red/orange marks on the under jaw), brown (usually blue or red halos around some of the black dots)

Enjoy the exploring!
