Does anybody have any experience with the .325? I am seriously thinking about buying one and I am wondering if any of you could share some opinions on this cal.

I don't own a 325 WSM but I have been reading quite a bit about it lately. It sounds like it's catching on in the states for a good elk / moose / bear rifle. I think the the most common bullet weights available are 180, 200, and 220 gr, with the 180 leaving the muzzle at an advertised 3060 fps and the 220 gr leaving at 2840 fps. The 325 would be similar to a 338 Winchester Magnum, but with a somewhat smaller 8mm bullet.

Before you jump into it, check out brass/ shells availability, and if you do find a bunch of brass, get a bunch of it. I have read quite a few sceptics saying that the 325 WSM won't stick. Just something to think about. I could be wrong, as this was also said about the 300, and 270 WSM's and I don't think they are going away any time soon.

I don't like it at all. It's an 8mm, (.315") which is only slightly larger than it's smaller brother, the .300 WSM.

8mm bullets are limited and hard to get. I don't see much advantage over the hugely popular .300 WSM.
30-cal premium bullets are proven on elk/moose/bear and easy to obtain. Also work great on deer too! 165g shoots as flat as anything out there.

It's NOT a .338 win mag, not even it the same class... If you want a .338, get a .338.

Since I have two .338's, I'm not in the market for another one, but I am interested in the new .338 Federal, which is a true .338 that fits into a short action.

I don't want to flame you, but actually the 325 WSM uses a .323 calibre bullet, not .315. You're right, it's not a .338 though. But the .338 Federal is based on the .308 Win.... not exactly a lot of powder capacity, so the .325 WSM would have a fair amount more amount of "pop" over that round.

Barton's sold a mess of them last year, and had pallets of ammo.
I was able to buy dies , bullets amd lots of brass from Tom and Andrew at Higginson's with no problem.
The two fellas I loaded ammo for last year dropped moose with absolutely no proble, both really like their Browning Medallions.
Comparing cartidges that are as close to the same (.270- 280, 7X57-708)
is not very smart as there is no winner.
This is the case with the 338 and the .325WSM.

Buy what you like, I wouldn't listen to someone that said "It's not as good as " because it's close.
There are so many that are close , that it doesn't matter.
I shoot wildcats, not becuase they are better , but different .
Ford/Chevy thing once again.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I think this will be the next addition. As far as the .338 goes, I am not looking for a .338. I do most of my hunting right now with a .308 Savage as I have since I was 14. A .308 has no problem with moose, elk, deer or bear so my decision is mostly based on want and not need. It is always nice to have something different to pack around once in a while.

Enjoy, and make sure you let us know how it likes you, once you get it.

I will let you guys know how it shoots once I pick it up. I think that I will more than likely go with Savage. I can't decide if I really am a big fan of the A-bolt yet.

I own and shoot a Win 70 in 325WSM. I think it is a great cartridge. I have no problems getting brass or bullets for it and settled on the 220gr Sierra, great accuracy and the high BC translates into good retained energy downrange. Only got to shoot a couple deer with it last year and it did very little damage to the meat. My rifle is fairly light weighing in at around 7.5lb with scope and recoil isn't an issue. I have the exact same set up in 270WSM and although the recoil is greater it's more of a stronger push and has less snap then the 270WSM. I have no problems shooting off 20rds with just a t-shirt on.
