Ice fishing with Helly Hansen Pile One Piece Suit

Does anyone use this for ice fishing? Just wondering if this one piece can keep a guy toasty when standing outside for 9 hours on the ice? i was debating on buying it.

It depends on what you layer over it and how cold it gets. It will get smelly when it gets sweaty and it will get melty if it gets to close to flames. One piece will be warmer than a two piece for sure, you might have to take your jacket off to do active stuff. With a good windbreaking layer and a layer or two of wool underneath I've been comfy in this down to -10.

I much prefer 2 piece. Just more options when it warms up or you can strip down a little when you’re busy.

God damn I ordered it lol. I figured get the one piece and I will be super warm. I guess I just won't do jumping Jack's on the ice so I wont over heat.

Your best bet for a base layer is merino wool, it doesn’t hold the stink like polyester does, it does a better job of wicking sweat and will still keep you warm if it gets damp or wet. I won’t wear anything else as a base layer after switching to icebreaker merino wool base layers. Simply the best out there.

Mine onesie fits good, not saggy. Very warm..only wear when really cold. Zippers not great but still works. Had them for many years....satisfied.

I was taking a hard look at this during the Black Friday sale as it was ~25% or 30% off. You might want to keep your receipt and see if they put it on sale again after Christmas.

I have a pair and wear them when lower than -20. on the ice. they work great ,just don't build up a sweat.

DAMN you guys have me worried. Does it really stink that bad if i sweat in it? i was almost planning to wear this on every trip even if it was -5 outside lmao Can it really get that hot?

Lets say if i was fishing at noon at it was +1 outside and then it drops to -20 later on in the day. i dont want to have to run to my truck to put it on. I was just gonna wear it all day haha

I have used HH arctic coverall's for yrs and because I am out of a tent more than in I am always nice and warm. But in these temps it is too much so I just wear the lined jeans with a hoddie and parka. But when it gets cold and you know it will you will be glad you put the buy on.

Personally, I would just have used the money; which is quite a lot for a set of long underwear really when you think about it, on a real good outerwear set instead for ice fishing like a Frabill ice suit. This way you can wear just one comfortable lighter layer of clothes underneath and be very toasty in -25. You won’t sweat up bad in the truck on the way there in your normal clothes and the new ice fishing suits these days are incredibly warm without having to wear multiple bulky layers underneath. Mine is so warm it actually has venting capability with zippers to allow me to control the heat inside and avoid overheating and sweating which is great once I get inside a tent. I find this way much more comfortable than building up too many layers and is perhaps the best investment I have made for my ice fishing so far.

Bought a pair for hunting. Walk a quarter mile in them, and it feels like your balls are going to ignite. Too warm for walking, but great for sitting in cold weather.

I have had the one piece for years, love em. I only wear them ice fishing and colder than -10. Between those and a good set of pack boots I can sit all day and stay warm.

After trying everything out there, and a closet full of winter gear ..... what I find best is ....

- a insulated warm bib
- a warm insulated hoodie tucked into it
- a 3/4 length jacket insulated and windproof

all of this over a thermal long underwear and long sleeve shirt.

Layers is the key

I can drop the jacket when/while pulling the sled or drilling holes so I don't sweat (last thing you want) otherwise you are cold all day after you settle in.

The one piece would be ideal after you settle in though - I just found them way to warm when pulling in the sled and drilling.
