Default Black marks on nickel/stainless receiver - Browning BLR

Hello all. I purchased the pictured Browning BLR (stainless barrel, nickel plated alloy receiver) last month. Really like the gun, but am puzzled to see dark marks (look like scuff marks or residue) appearing on the receiver. I have tried to remove them with G96 and a cloth, but no luck. Any idea what is happening/what I should use to remove the marks?

I've got a friends blr at home right now with black marks on the barrel. to me it looks like whatever they coat it with is peeling a bit. Don't know if that helps any.

I was reading a thread on another forum about just this very issue quite recently Sir...

Originally I thought it was scuffing, marring or transfer of colour related to storage (possibly from a case or some such). Some folks there believed it to be due to a reaction between the finish and body chemistry, acidity from the hands you understand.

Whatever the case may be, if it does not impede the function of the firearm then I personaly wouldn't consider it all that much of an issue. None the less, I do think it may be best to go with the blued option personally if I ever were to get a BLR. I do enjoy the look of the classic bluing for most guns.

Hopefully Browning will have some answers for you.

I have a couple marks on the receiver of my stainless ruger (I'm assuming they're the same since I can't see the pictures) and I don't think I could get them off, short of a polishing compound and that would negate the matte finish so I'm just leaving them.
