I don't think they are over priced. If they all performed the way they should I think they are a good deal. They are selling a lot of them and I think the company is overwhelmed and can't handle the demand so has let quality control slip a bit on occasion to keep up the production, hopefully they get it worked out. I fully intend to get mine shooting soon as I get the bugs worked out. To get a similar rifle with nice wood and decent ample checkering, or with their composite stock which is a good one not tupperware you would have to pay a pretty similar price if not more, especially for a rifle in its weight range with the excellent easily adjustable trigger they have. The rifle handles like a dream and is well balanced. I did not mean to say they were all problem rifles, just that folks on the internet forums who have a gripe will yell louder than those who are happy and that suggests the problem is larger than life. I think the odds of getting a good one are pretty good, every brand puts out their lemons once in a while and I've had a few from various manufacturers over the years, thats life. I'm actually thinking of getting another one. The Kimber platform is an excellent design, one of the best, they just need to get the bugs out and improve their QC.
