Default Lake Chaparral Fishing

Has anyone fished this lake recently? Tried my luck out today, during the winter and last summer a few times.. Have only caught 1 15" rainbow through the ice and not a nibble during the summer/spring seasons, does anyone have any tips on flies, bait, etc. Have seen lots of trout cruising along the shoreline but cannot get them to give my hooks a bite. Have also seen what looks to be a carp of some sort, does anyone have any idea what they might be? Thanks.

The carp you are seeing are likely grass carp put in to control vegetation.

Trout wise if it is similar to arbour lake, they are pellet fed. Look for the Berkley power bait that mimics pellets

Good luck

If chaparral is similar to sundance the fish aren't really that picky. I was out on Sundance lake yesterday managed to stick 7 trout. If your into fly fishing this time of year I would definitely recommend a sinking line, just fish the drop offs around the lake, casting onto the ledge, letting it sink and then little strips as u lift the fly out of the drop off. smaller heavy streamers do the trick for me. Something that gets down fast so I don't have to wait so long for it to sink haha. it's all about the retrieve though that depends on the fishes mood, generally slower is better this early in the season. It shouldn't be a problem getting at least 1-2 fish!
Later in the year you can rise fish on just about anything if u can find a bay without wind you'll be golden. Good luck!
