Very dependent on the setup. My simple setup is supposed to be good for 2 km, but I have not tried it that far. Sophisticated setup maybe 30km? There are lots of variables that will determine distance, but some can go very far.

I wonder what the Legalities of using one for scouting for hunting? Kind of the same thing as hoping in a plane or helicopter.

Excellent point. I know one person who lost his hexacopter with gimbal and GoPro attached - thankfully his VISA warranty covered it. He has the Phantom now.

as long as your rifle is a .22 caliber.: you can say that your just taking pictures.

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision and others have GPS on board to correct for wind drift, as well as a fly back set up, operator needs to set this up, not automatic with turn on the unit, it needs to know where you are The Site has some Yu Tube on HOW TOOS.
