Default Missing Bucks

So I have had bucks disappear on me during hunting season, but recently I have had an entire bachelor group disappear from my trail cams. I am the only one with access to the area, visited twice over the course of 3 months, used scent control, went at midday, sufficient food source right there, and basically did everything right. Has anyone ever lost a group of bucks during the summer months? This is driving me crazy!

Predators move into the area? Wolves, Cats, etc? have you looked around for tracks?

Whitetails. I have 4 cameras out in the area currently and none of them have picked up any new predators moving into the area. I have a small pack of wolves, but they have been there for years.

Happens all the time, bush bucks dont really pattern well. Is there a changing food source near by? Ie , freah cut alfalfa, new growth of canola , peas, oats? water scource dried up? Hi activity , ie cattle being moved, lease building? How many years have you had data on them?

Default bugs?

Might be something as simple as a new hatch of biting bugs. They move to a more open area to let the wind rid them of pests.

They'll hang out and go where the best groceries are, that can change from year to year especially in farmland. In the bush a recent clear cut, cutline, burn, etc that has started growing tender new salad can draw them away from where they were before.

Thanks for the information. This land is located in the middle of no where, no farmland, no buildings, nothing. I am thinking the bugs may be the culprit. The land is pretty swampy and the mosquitoes nearly drained me dry last weekend when I went out to set up my stand.

I hunt a excellent property that is devoid of deer during the summer months. My only guess is also mosquito populations. Post and pre mosquitto season is brimming.

I have seen quite a few deer when I have been out and about. Small groups and mostly bachelor groups. Its the does and fawns that I very seldom see this time of year.

Have had a pack of wolves move in to a whitetail spot and clear all the deer out of the area for a while.

I think that does with fawns for the most part are avoiding areas with activity, while the bucks seem out in the open earlier.
