Rainbow trout lures

Just lookin for a few suggestions for lures for river trout. Have been useing a five of diamons and have had very few strikes. What are some other good rainbow trout lures?

Len Thompson hammered brass with orange is my go to followed by Len Thompson silver and blue

What size of spoon? My go to is #7 Len Thompson spoons in green frog or orange and black. Although sometimes downsizing to a #6 works too. I never go any bigger then that for most trout. And make sure to vary your retrieves. More often then not they want that lure moving as slow as possible.

I use 1/4 ounce kastmasters rooster tails Mepps agila or Thompson lures.

Ultralight setup with 4 lb mono. Used this setup exclusively for a decade on bows, cutties, browns, bulls and the odd cuttbow

I've had good success with the Acme Kastmasters in nickel or brass, and Mepps spinners with the hackle/dressed hooks in brass. I'm sure other color patterns would work well, too, but these have been successful for me. Just picked up a few more Kastmasters today in new colors (trout, baitfish, etc.) so we'll see how they produce.

I recommend the dressed spinners, as the material will hold water once wet which allows you to cast farther. Plus the fish seem to prefer them over a plain spinner.

I use 4lb. mono on a light spinning rod. Works well for the smaller rivers and lakes.

weighted bobber with a chironomid or leech underneath can be killer, many days I've outfished trollers and bait fishers that way. you can even do the same thing with a dry fly if you want

I have never caught any trout, in the bow/elbow/highwood on anything other than rainbow or brown rapalas. Tried len thomsons, mepps, blue fox. Don't know why.

Definitely this.
Other than flies, Williams Wabler in gold, flat, ie no wrinkles works best for me. In fact, I think it the best all around lure. If I could only pack one with me, that would be the one.

Instead of the bobber set up, just use split shot on line a couple of feet above a muddler minnow, matuka, wooly bugger or similar on light mono or fluoro line. Amount of weight depends on required casting distance, water depth, current, etc. This has out-fished proper fly fishing gear and approaches for me on many occasions, especially for cuts, bows, and grayling in mid-sized streams.

Using this method with an indicator made of open celled packing foam would work great. The packing foam cut in 1" by 1" square , rolled up and tied on with a clove hitch knot works pretty sweet and won't spook fish as it looks like foamy water. Watch it float down in the current and if it stops or moves in a different direction set the hook. If you want to remove the indicator just pull the line from either side and it'll slice through the foam.

Tie with 3-5 ft. of line to a fly and reel slowly, can pause occasionally too. Keep rod tip pointed at the float and pay attention.
With the one in the link, you can add water for casting distance.

Get a small selection of flies and you are good to go.

Same here! So crazy when I read these threads. No joke, I have kept a brown rapala CD 7 on my rod for two years now because I don't bother with anything else.

I only fish the bow with a few trout patterned CD7s on this similar setup. I haven't lost a fish yet!

My friend only uses a 5 of diamonds and i can attest that he constantly catches fish with it. I've come to realize catching fish has very little to do with the pattern but the presentation.

For me nothing comes close to the Rapala Countdowns, you have the most control with them and can fish all levels by just varying your retrieve.
