Default Alaska Dall Sheep Hunts

Anyone here hunt Alaska for Dalls? Guided hunts there seem to be 5-10,000 dollars cheaper than the Yukon or NWT.

Not cheaper in long run though.

Alaska has some big rams, probably more big rams killed in Alaska each year then the NWT.

That being said their success rate is wayyyyyyy lower. Not even in the same ball park actually.

When booking a dall sheep or dall sheep combo hunt there is no other place I would even consider besides the NWT.
If you want a mixed bag with with grizzly you should look at the Yukon.

On average yes, but if one was looking for the biggest dalls, Alaska has the lead.

70 in the top 100 for B&C are Alaska, 25 or so are Yukon and only 5 are NWT

Interesting stats. Nice to know the facts. As already stated I wouldn't go anywhere else but NWT or Yukon.

If you look a the top records for Dall most are from AK but almost all of them were shot in the 50's and 60's After the super cub became prevalent I think they shot the rams out most of the good rams and now its a far cry from what it was. My money today would be the McKenzies

Was trying to look up some info on this a bit yesterday. I did rad a biologist that said very few rams came from the Brooks range due to small bases. Kinda like Wilmore here for bighorns I am thinking.

Chugach and Tok are where the big boys (and their genetics) still live these days

All good info. Seems like everyone tells me to stick with Canada but the extra 5 to 7 grand American is making it hard to.

Default Alaska!

Have been to Alaska numerous times for sheep and brown bear. Be extremely cautious when selecting an Alaskan Outfitter! Be sure to get as many referral as possible and contact each and every one. Because Alaska's Outfitting regulations favor the economic benefits vs. the hunting experience, there are a way too many "scammer" Outfitters!
Also, in my experience the other posts are correct - no price difference / smaller animals. Personally, I would look to the Yukon.
Good luck

If all things were equal then I'd agree with you. But honestly the overall success rate in Alaska for guided dall sheep hunts is probably under 50% if you knew the true stats. Now nobody there will ever admit to this, but from the people I've talked to in the business it's not likely far off. NWT success rate is easily over 95% overall.

That's a huge difference

I've hunted Alaska and seen first hand what their outfitting industry is like there, I'd be very very cautious who you booked with if you went. In fact I'd be worried more about getting ripped off there then in South Africa.
