I didn't either - I had planned to at one point but it wasn't near rigid enough for my liking.

I just started working on a Remington 700 that is going to be a 338 lapua improved.
Disassembled receiver , remove barrel 1/2 hour

Set barrel up in lathe and indicate both muzzle and chamber ends 1/2 hour

I have just finished cutting the chamber and that took almost 1 hour

So far I have 2 hours invested now I need measure to set headspace , to cut barrel extension , thread and counter bore for bolt nose . That will take an hour for sure and then switch set up to cut and crown and that will take close to an hour. Then need to put all back together and that will take 1/2 hour

So depending on how things go on this job to finish out 4-5 hours . That doesn't include any barrel finishing , fitting to stock or marking barrel for caliber

I think I work at a relatively quick pace

If one chambers between centres the set up is a little faster but not by much

Default Chamber

If ya don't mind me asking, how do you check headspace on the chambering without having tenon cut and threaded, and bolt nose recess? There's always a few ways to skin a cat, so just curious.

I have cut enough Remington's to know approximately how much of the gauge will be exposed past the end of the barrel tenon. I have chambered probably 10 thousandths deeper than I need to be , now I will cut the barrel extension for the proper headspace and make the necessary correction. It is probably easier doing it this way than to cut the barrel extension and then cut the chamber to the proper depth .

The majority of the time I do cut the extension first and cut the chamber to proper depth. I don't know why I guess that is how I learned but propably the first way is probably easier . The first way eliminates " feel " for when the reamer is starting to cut when making the final cuts of the chamber .

Does that answer your question ?
