I did not vote on this merger. Nor am I a card carrying member of any party.
What I am is a person who votes during an election. To which I expect the member to hold their seat to what I voted for.
I do not want to see floor crossing of elected officials, nor do I want to see party mergers of two formed party's.
What I want to see is elected members do their job. I want them to represent me based on their party lines. What they stand for and what they stand agaisnt.
So many hated Daniel Smith and the others for floor crossing, yet the majority seem to support a floor crossing today.
What I would like to see is a party abolishment of both the PC and Wildrose. Form a new Party, Then run byelections in their ridings.
From what I see we will end up with the same mess we had of the PCs over the past elections because the same members will still be in power who did nothing to stop Mr Stellmach Misses Redford from going out of control.
We had hope when members left the PC party to form a renewed party that wanted to clean up the mess left behind by the Former PC party. Now out of desperation to defeat the NDP they are going back and joining with those who could not control their spending and sense of entitlement.
I would rather see the NDP voted in for another term and end up with a strong well put together party of Opposition formed for the next Election, then have a poorly executed plan to form two close but rival party's who may or.may not defeat the NDP. The scandals will come out, all the dirty deals will come out and the New PC party will have a hard time winning the next election in my opinion. Not to mention the power struggle there is going to be if they do join together.
Let's hope they have their poop together if they join or else we are in for a disastrous few more years.

I read in the Sun today that some members are getting more than one pin to vote on line and some have none

Lots of issues with regards to pins and the call center. Should find out relatively soon if we'll have a merger or not.

A huge issue facing whatever happens as a result of the vote will be credibility. It seems like there are to many people holding both PC and WR memberships, not to mention perhaps NDP as well, and then voting more than once. I care not that there are those who accept that the leadership of both parties have recommended multiple memberships. This certainly does not inspire credibility and, really, can the vote outcome be taken seriously by people who have not been on the "inner circle". It will take a whole lot of this group to remove Notley in the next election, and it will be a travesty if she wins the next one by default.

I dont think its inner circle when 95% of the membership vote yes, and 25,000 memberships were sold in the last 2 months for the WRP strictly because they wanted to vote in this unity vote. The members have clearly spoken, and the message is Notley your done!
We'll see what happens with the PC's. Im actually more nervous about that vote as roughly 25% of the PC party is actually liberal.
Also lots of members hold both WRP and PC party memberships. They held both memberships before the unity vote because both partys cross over the same part of the political spectrum. So I fail to see how the vote has any issues regarding credibility. If this was a back room deal similar to the way Danielle Smith pulled her stunt you'd have an argument. The fact is, it isn't and Albertans are sick and tired of the NDP.

Now comes the process of electing a leader for the new party. Will it be Brian Jean, Jason Kenny or will some surprise wild card come in and take the reins, (W. Brett Wilson?)

I hope they have a good process for electing a leader. I am not in favor of the process where they count second place votes.

United party will have the same structure as the Wildrose, so expect preferential voting.

REALLY good to see a clear and decisive outcome. Pretty hard to argue with a 95% yes vote from both sets of members. I had actually thought it was going to end up a lot closer vote than it turned out. A little surprised only 55% voted, considering how many new memberships were sold in both parties the last couple of months.
I like Jason's Libertarian bent, small gov, minimal gov interference in our day to day lives. Unfortunately there seem to be far too many Albertans who favour big Gov and cradle to grave nannyism. As said. it will be interesting to see who the new leader is and who the candidates are for the next election.

NDP move toward center???
Should be interesting to see if the NDP begins to govern with a more centrist bent. Two years before a general election is an eternity. I also wonder if Rachel will call a snap election. Should be interesting to see things unfold, particularly as Kenney and Jean duke it out. I honestly have no inclination how that will end up.

Since the Wildrose Party was created by disenfranchised conservatives that were upset by the socialist infiltration and subsequent sabotage of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta, I would hope that we have learned enough to prevent the "red conservatives" from insinuating themselves in the new party.
Time will tell.

I am a bit puzzled by the skepticism regarding the potential for the UCP to trounce the NDP regardless of who becomes leader? Should be a slam dunk ... no?

Strikes me that with 95% in each party voting to merge, there should be little bleed off from either party of people who disagree and want to go form new competing parties. If 55% of PC's and 76% or WR had voted yes I'd be worried.
As for who the leader of the party will be... at this point I'd vote for them if a raccoon won the nomination. Though maybe not that Filderbrandt character.... LOL

After two years of NDP, I don't think even teachers, nurses and Union members are willing to vote for them again. I have no trouble seeing the NDP getting punted next election. I just wish she would call an early election hoping to catch the new United party unprepared. I think that would save us two years of further grief.
