this is what we call Peg Snaring ,you can get good bags doing this but it does take a bit of skill to do it ,one of the rabbits has been damaged by a Buzzard and they are starting to be a problem over here .

Where do you find rabbets that make trails in fields, Australia?

Cool way of doing things. Might be worth knowing how, for our southern folks.
Up here in the north one never sees rabbits (Hare) that far from cover, so trail sets anchored to a sapling works well.

Even so, I would be interested in the details of the set. What sort of loop, how is the loop set, is it on the ground or just above, what sort of wire, what do you use to anchor it?

Those sort of details, if you don't mind.

If you'd rather not go into details, that's okay too. It is always interesting to see a different way of doing things.

Thank you very much for sharing.

This the Peg Snare very simple but in the right hands deadly it consists off
1 24 inch Brass rabbit wire with a woven in eyelet formed into a 7 1/2 x 5 1/2
inch loop
2 A 10 inch figure 4 , 2.5 mill Galv Fence wire that we call a Teeler/support .
3 The rabbit wire is threaded through a hole at the to of the teeler and a simple knot is added to the bottom of the wire ,.This then forms a simple swivel
4 A7 inch hardwood peg is looped through the teeler and you are ready to go
5 The snare is then set out on a run /trail at a height of 6 1/2 inches from the top of the ground to the bottom of the loop........this distance increases if it is raining or the grass is growing, Doing this one man that i know caught 180 rabbits in 200 snares one night .

Thanks, that is very clever.

I would have never thought it possible to snare them in an open field.
But then we never see them in open fields up here.

The set does have potentual here though. In places where there are not trees, like in road right of ways. Our bunnies do feed in somewhat open spaces at times.
