Default Mandatory Spring Thread : Favorite Pike lure

What is everybodies go to pike lure?

I have always used a big spinner with good success

and you can't go wrong with a buzzbait pulled on top of the water in some shallows

For early water in May, just the good ole 5-o-diamonds spoon, Len Thompson, yellow and red, size 00.

Awsome thread!!

Black Fury!!! Went out yesterday and caught a few pike very shallow near the surface. Made for some very intense strikes even though they were small. Top water strikes are the ultimate.

Also landed 3 walleye, one at a hair over 25 inches. One nice gold eye too! All on the FURY.

Gotta love when you go out with your rod rigged and not have to change your lure once!! Best day of 07 open water season for me. Also considering i only got about 2 hours of fishing in.

BIG SPINNERS has my vote. And the boys I went with were wishing that they hadn't left theirs at home. Only one other fish was caught and it was a sucker. Just goes to show sometimes you can leave the bait at home.

I love the five of diamonds. It never lets me down, BUT i am going to do crank-baits on the surface this weekend. This is new to me, but with all of the talk of Pike slamming your crank-bait on the surface I have to give it a go.
Good luck everyone.

Big spoon, the bigger the better, 5d or red an' white. Yellow jig and a minnow with easily snappable 6 lb test while fishing for walleye always seems to attract pike as well.

Good luck on the top water dodger. I for one find pike top water strikes to be one of the most exciting occurrences in fishing especially if they hit it when you’re real close. If you get wet.....GREAT!

My go to pike lure is always the chartreuse spinnerbait. I mostly fish for pike with lures at Glenmore Reservoir. This lure rarely misses there. Elsewhere (prairie Reservoirs), I exclusively flyfish in spring.

Big blue floating Rapala, deadly if there's whitefish in the lake.

Ya, i have had lots of fun burnin inlines, and playing with the soft bodies. I agree with the guys above, top water is explosive, but boys, its tough to beat the balsa. My bread and butter. FISH WITH TEETH BOYS....ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST BAIT.

edit; kinda gettin myself excited. I havent been out yet.

A big spinner is best for covering lots of water.

For the NSR curly tail jigs. Lose lots on snags. Everything else to expensive to use/lose.
Anywhere else 5 o Diamonds.
