Default SKS FTFs pinned mag the issue?

Hi,

I've owned my SKS Canadian tire wonder for a bout two years. The mag is pinned using the small rod pin....
I shot mostly Czech surplus (on stripper clips) from the mid- 80's. sometimes, the round doesnt feed and get whacked by the bolt, bullet sticking upwards.

This dents the round. Its usually happening on the last round (fifth).
I wonder if its because the pin used to limit to 5 is flimsy and cause the issue.

I wonder if the mags limited by a large rivet underneat is better?

How hard would it be to buy a tapco mag from Crappie and fit it? Would that make my bangstick more reliable?

I don't have much hope for my SKS, its just a fun gun to me...

Default Sks

Can't hurt to try. The mag I bought worked without any fitting.

How does the pin impact the feeding? The pin in mine and others I've seen just stops the follower from depressing any further past 5 rounds.

This sounds correct to me.

OP. I believe you have a problem with the feed lips of your magazine and re-pinning it will not solve your issue.

You may need to "adjust" your magazine follower to be more in the center. Mine was doing the same thing it sounds like yours is doing. Literally grab the follower and bend it whichever way it needs to go to be in the center. Mine has worked flawlessly ever since.

I think we are on the right track.

I suspect the rod doesn't sit plumb every time, that is why I thought that the big rivet solution was a better implementation.

I would like to find one of those mags somewhere.

Last thing....most of the ammo I fired was the steelcore milsurp and that is when the issue occured.
But a few weeks ago, I shot 40 rounds of Barnaul FMJ without an issue. I know its not enough to be representative, but would it be possible that the Czech surplus loads aren't as reliable that modern YET-cheap Barnaul?
I have some SP PPU too but I would keep this for an eventual hunt...
