Default Marten Sets New Area

First time for Marten , What would be the recommended first check time for setting in a new area . With no snow it's a guessing game if the Marten are in the area , 1 st area has spruce to poplar transition area , gulleys , ravine, springs , ridges etc . Second is spruce area with blow downs , soft moss areas with small spruce , under ground spring , a small lake & some higher ground bordering. Suggestions for check time appreciated
