Default Another vehicle used in a terror attack. This time in NYC

From the New York Times.

At least six people were killed when a man drove a pickup truck as many as 20 blocks down a bike path next to the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon before he jumped out with fake guns and was shot by police officers, the authorities said.

The police did not immediately call it a terrorist attack. But two law enforcement officials said that after the attacker got out of the truck, he was heard yelling, “Allahu Akbar.” (Arabic for “God is great.”)

The motorist, driving south down the path in a Home Depot rental truck, hit numerous people as nearby Stuyvesant High School was letting out for the day, officials said. At least 15 people were injured.

“He jumped out of the truck with a pellet gun, yelled, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ and the First Precinct lit him up,” a law enforcement official said.

Witnesses described gunshots ringing out, people scrambling for cover and a street strewn with bodies and crumpled bicycles.

The driver, who was shot several times, was being treated at a nearby hospital. He had crashed the truck into a school bus. It was unclear if anyone was on the bus. The police said they were not looking for additional suspects

A large section of the West Side Highway was closed for the investigation as hundreds of officers, including the bomb squad, responded to the scene. The truck came to a rest near Chambers Street, facing eastbound.

Students at Stuyvesant High School reported that they saw a man shooting from a pickup truck, and then saw the truck turn and strike a school bus.

Ramon Cruz, 27, said the driver appeared injured. Then Mr. Cruz said he heard someone yell, “He’s got a gun, run, run!”

Several nearby buildings, including Stuyvesant, were placed on lockdown.

When this started happening in Europe, the use of vehicles to run down people, I thought oh great, now anyone with a grudge/terrorist has a easy tool to take out innocent people. Terrible new tactic. How do you stop this kind of attack?

Go for a walk on a bike trail, public event or even here at a football game and get injured and or killed. Crazy.

Apparently his guns were fake.

Gun control must be working. The world is becoming a safer place.

Anything bigger than a smart car is restricted.

Anything with a seating capacity greater than five is restricted.

No, I'm not trying to be funny. I'm trying to be ridiculous. There's nothing funny about this.

Charlton Heston was right.

Meh, it’s all the same to me. At least I know what they are saying now. I was convinced it was I smell like bum in English. I was wrong it’s even worse. My heart goes out to the family’s involved in this latest attack.

Interesting info on how he got into the country.

29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the immigrant from Uzbekistan who murdered at least eight people in Manhattan on Tuesday, arrived in the United States seven years ago under what is called the Diversity Visa Program, a program that President Trump and the GOP have been trying to eliminate.
As The Washington Post explained:
Each year, the Diversity Visa Lottery, as it is officially known, provides up to 50,000 randomly selected foreigners — fewer than 1 percent of those who enter the drawing — with permanent residency in the United States.

Na. It's just easier to ignore the incidents that don't fit the agenda.

How do you think the total number of people killed by vehicles compares to the total number of people killed by firearms every year?

Why don't you go ahead and break down the number of people killed or injured by guns vs cars in mass attacks in the US in the last 10 years for me.

Take hunting accidents, single home invasions, isolated murders and car accidents out of it.

The government and anti firearm groups even include suicides when they try to justify firearms regulations, so all deaths should be included for both vehicles and firearm.

Suicides and accidents were used to justify some of our firearms regulations, so they should be included.

You edited your post after my quote. Laws are made by the government, and since they used data that included accidents and suicides to justify the firearms regulations, we need to use similar stats to judge vehicle deaths. As well if the driver was convicted of impaired driving, or criminal negligence, then the cause of death would be considered a criminal act rather than an accident.
