If you read the important changes in the 2017 Hunting guide you will see this change listed.

Plenty of birds at Daysland today, but they are in the brush, and would rather run than fly in this wind. We didn't hear many other people shooting, but the dog had no problem finding us our limits in just over an hour.

I walked a fair bit of bush yesterday (24th) and put up 1 bird in 2.5 hours. Slow where I was but I heard more shooting in some areas (not a lot). My dog found a lot of fresh predator kills (wings on the ground). Only saw 2 others hunting together and I think they shot 3 times while near me (one volley).

Nothing at Bobby hale. Impossible to lock sent down in 90k gusts. Only saw one clump of feathers which is unusual for the location. No luck on my private spots either today.

Default Releases ending

It sounds like the release are done after this weekend at sites such as South Plain and Daysland. I am guessing the sites in the 200 zones as this is in relation to them opening up earlier and this is the 2 month commitment. Please people don't go into panic mode. Plan a trip instead to the southern zones as they are just in their 2nd week of their season. My suggestion is to check they release sites in the 100 zones and plan an epic trip. And do that every year..

Yes. Daysland. I'd say we found about 10 predator kill - bones and feathers. I think success depends on how close your hunted to the release or perhaps how far your dog ranges (mine stay close).

Yes the distance that your dog ranges plays a huge part in how many birds you find. My dog moves fast, and ranges farther, which allows us to cover much more ground, which really pays off when there are not as many birds, or they are in heavy cover. Then again a bird pointed in heavy cover may not produce a clear shot when flushed, so some days we need to find more birds just to get good shot opportunities.

Thanks.

Plenty of birds at Daysland, in spite of the idiot that blocked the gate access with his truck. Quite a few hunters as well.

That’s just wrong...so easy to park and NOT block the gate.
What if an old dude like me fell down and broke a leg or had a heart attack...blocking the bambulance....or worse yet THE RELEASE TRUCK!!!

Frank was good today. Dog found 4 birds (2 were on the way back to the truck with our limit, so they lived to see another day).Lost the dog's transmitter, though. If anyone finds a black Sportdog transmitter near the power line in the NW quarter, I'd love to hear from you!

Was at Hopewell early afternoon today for a quick jaunt before heading out of town

Dog found 3 dead roosters in the grass....

Live ones were deep in the cattail marsh. Kudos to the dog because it was tough slogging in there.

How do you determine which release sites are finished releasing birds for the year and which ones are still releasing for the month of November?

Using south plain as an example. I talked to the release truck driver. They are done, yet the ACA website says sept 1 - nov 15th.

I am aware some of the southern ones start later and end later then the northern ones.

Perhaps , you should call or e-mail the ACA, to find out when the releases will end at each site you intend to hunt. Last year the site stated Nov 30, yet the releases ended Nov 19 or so.

Hit up Namaka Lake this morning in the hurricane winds, but got lucky and got my first Pheasant!!! Pretty Pumped Up.

Saw a few other birds but wasn’t able to track them down.

The cooler temperatures made hunting more comfortable for man and beast today. This was a nice looking rooster from Bigelow

8 km of walking turned up a single bird today at Frank. Had to get beyond where most folks are willing to go.

They were still active on Friday, but in the past, we have found birds that were weak and couldn't fly, several days after a release with deep snow on the ground.

Check out the ACA website for releases at sights as it has been recently updated showing which sites are still having birds released.
