Default Fleas

I am just getting into skinning and boarding coyotes. Actually haven't done one yet. I am trying to call them and shoot them. Snaring may be next year.

I have 2 labs and am concerned with the transfer of fleas from me or my clothing to my dogs.

My plan is that I have a very large Rubbermaid container that will hold 2 or maybe even 3 dogs in it. I am planning to spray them down with Raid and close the lid on them.

1) Will this kill the jumpy little bastards?

2) Will this ruin the pelt?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is no perfect system. They are tough little buggers. Use raid and have a dedicated set of skinning clothes/coveralls and shower when you get inside. With small kids and a dog I was scared too....so far so good. I just hang them and spray them thoroughly then skin them 5 min later

I put the animals in a large garbage bag and spray raid into it and seal it up for an hr.

I treat my dog for fleas at the start of coyote season. I'd have to check the name of the stuff, I think it's the dog version of Ivomec. Prevents mange as well. Cheap insurance in my mind. I still raid my coyotes most of the time.

It's called Revolution, once a month treatment for 40 bucks or so for a big dog. I just treat her for a few months.

Default fleas

I've got 2 labs, and they always have good quality flea collars on them during coyote season.

We've tried starting fluid (ether) and it works pretty good. Drop the coyote into a green garbage bag, spray into the bag for 10 seconds. Tie the bag up; when you get home, they're dead! Keep the bagged guy in the back of the truck. Not inside! No smoking around there either!

Default Construction grade garbage bags & raid

I would do one coyote sprayed all over (especially underside) in each bag and seal with twist ties. Maybe then you could put 2 in rubbermaid but if one is on top of other in rubbermaid I would be concerned about protected areas the raid doesnt reach. I leave them for couple hours after spraying before taking them indoors to skin. Doesnt hurt pelt and so far no dogs got fleas.
Separate change of clothes in garage or shed is good idea as I have found one on me clinging to life although hurting badly after spraying during skinning process. Too weak to jump but still moving slightly. I hate the little *&^%$#@!

but foxes and jack rabbits are 10X worse they are often saturated with them!

Most of the time I just skin while they are still warm. Takes way less time to do compared to cold an stiff. They seem to climb up a hanging coyote. Spraying hind legs an crotch area will slow them down. After skinning, wash the hide. Critters can be tough against freezing or raid but they can't handle water

I spray the crotch really well then hang. Spray and cover in garbage bag. Tie up at top real tight as wwbirds states with twist ties. I then rub them in the bag get the little buggers agitated. ( maybe it makes me sleep at night knowing I'm killing them). I leave them for a couple hours even over night. But fox are usually worse than yotes.

I use the biggest clear recycle bags and spray with raid , the clear lets you see what's going on and when they're all dead ! Usually let it sit an hour or so anyways !

I just hang them and spray...leave for 10 minutes...I seen somewhere and i think it was Ryan 5911's U tube video that if you put them in a bag and spray the side that is laying down against the bag doesnt get any Raid

I put them in a bag and hit em with raid make sure you turn them around in the bag a couple times while you let them sit so the whole coyote gets a whiff of raid, then once they're out spray under the back and front legs and around their ass. Put your clothes right in the wash as soon as you get in the house. I have 3 dogs and I've never had a flea on them yet.

I've read that a capful of acetone in the bottom of the bag works to kill fleas. Has anybody tried this?

Probably, lacquer thinner works.

Should've added that I spray them as soon as I get home , in the bag and hanging up ! Usually need to thaw out for a bit so it works good ! But I also don't have dogs

I've heard that a few times too. I have a hard time blowing a rabbit call for more than 20 or 30 seconds being asthmatic though.

I can just imagine a coyote coming in and I'm passed out flopping like a fish. Lol Talk about educating a coyote! Hahaha

Lol fair enough. When I first started calling coyotes 12 years ago I watched a few Randy Anderson videos Where he was calling in sask. Learned a ton and got pretty good at it. Keep at it. It gets better! And as for the fleas, garbage bag and raid is the easiest.
