Default A reminder

I dug a rifle out of the corner today to check zero and do a little plinking. -20 and snowing but shack was warm and comfortable. Rifle was still dialed in so just plinking targets and a gong. I took my glasses off to use spotting scope and then got settled in to continue shooting. Damn forgot glasses, agh, won't bother, just let it go. Partial head separation, lots of smoke, burn above eye and side nose.
I was complacent and also very lucky. Remember your safety glasses!!

What type of rifle? I've had a partial in an Abolt browning and a full separation in a enfield and didn't even notice until I opened the bolt. Perhaps I should be using glasses more.

I had case separation a few years ago in a 22 LR.
There was a loud noise and an unexpected puff of smoke--both were bigger than I would have predicted given the small powder charge in those rounds.
Certainly got my attention!
glad you are OK

A good reminder for sure. I'm curious to know what kind of rifle you were shooting.

Rem 700 25-06. It wasn't a hot load just old brass. With cold weather the hot gas was probably more noticeable. Shooting without glasses especially on the range is a dangerous practice. I got lazy and fortunately only got a couple small powder burns
On my face not in the eye.
