Default Seriously...how messed up is our justice system?!?!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...rder-1.4383139

According to an agreed statement of facts presented in court this week, Posthumus had no idea her boyfriend "was in possession of a shotgun and intended to use the firearm to facilitate in a robbery."

While Posthumus waited in her truck, Tym walked toward the passenger side of the other vehicle.

"Mr. Gregory was immediately shot in the head through the window," the court document states.

Another man in the vehicle was also shot, but survived.

Tym then stole cocaine from the dead man, and set the vehicle on fire.

Posthumus took some of that cocaine from Tym, consuming some and trying to sell the rest.

Posthumus was originally charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. But on Monday, the 31-year-old woman pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to manslaughter.

At the sentencing hearing Wednesday, prosecutor Alison Magill called Posthumus's actions a case of "willful blindness".

She and defence lawyer Deborah Hatch submitted a joint recommendation on sentencing for Posthumus to serve 90 days in jail followed by two years of probation.

If the guy they killed was a dealer odds are they will make sure she pays a high price for what she did.

It's a joke. We have a criminal-loving justice system. As a gov and society, we're not interested in stopping crime and "evil-doers."

Sickening. Disgusting.

A life for a life rings a wonderful tune.

I'm generally for that as well, but seeing how the article is about the girlfriend, "the girlfriends life for a life" seems a bit harsh.

On a sidenote, did she get off completely free for using and attempting to sell cocaine?

At least now she'll have chance to turn her life around, maybe get some vocational training. She could get into social work as a drug councilor maybe.

everyone deserves a second chance

We don't have a justice system, we have a legal system, big difference. Hopefully the murdered person's associates take care of her and her boyfriend.

Associates? Doubt it. Street level dealers are expendable. Mostly users themselves, or scum trying to work their way up.

Im sure she will be right back to living a productive life.

Not sure how this happens. With her background and additional charges pending out of province how did she not get jail time? And how did the boyfriend plead down to manslaughter? Bringing a shotgun to a buy is premeditated. 2nd degree at the minimum. What a joke.

In this case, the person they are reporting on didn’t in fact kill anyone. It appears the extent of her involvement was being there, trying to sell stolen drugs and presumably not going to the police.

Her case: Female defense lawyer, female prosecutor. "Poor me my life is so haaarrd"

His case: he must have flipped on someone important. That's the only way someone who doesn't qualify for R vs gladue treatment, gets a deal on a clear 1st degree murder involving a firearm.
