Taxidermist for Wolverine?

Hey guys,

Got a nice wolverine on the line this past weekend. Anyone recommend a good taxidermist to do a full body mount on it?

Congrats on your wolverine. Not going to suggest a taxidermist, but would love to see a pic. Always enjoy a good pic of a wolverine, and have never seen one in the wild. Is it a male?

I'd take it to silver willow. Double shovel on here. When it comes to critters like that he can really bring them to life.

I haven't had a wolverine done up by a taxidermist yet, so am unable to make a solid recommendation for you at this time. I have had the opportunity to see Wolverines live and in person in the bush, both times in B.C. Unfortunately I haven't seen one in Alberta.

I very much appreciate your pic and hope you receive an excellent mount of this one in the future!

Great job on the catch! There is a guy west of edmonton Ken Walker, he takes some time, but does really great work!

I'm surprised how far it got into the trap before it fired... Haven't really seen a wolverine catch before though.

curtis from silver willow - number #1 in ab for small animals , did my lynx,wolverine, and is currently doin my fisher , absolute killer work and fair price , wont let another taxi ever touch my animals , great turn around , will meet you half way in travels ..have over 30,000.00 dollars in mounts , tried many taxidermist's , finally found a awesome 1 ,hands down , you wont regret it , had a few animals from others , either changed price half way through, or had to wait ,many years ....
with a choice animal like that ---silver willow taxidermy

Thats really cool, I'd love to see one in the wild sometime. I have a friend nearby with a trap line and he has a wolverine hanging around but he's unsure if he's allowed to take them in his area. Hoping that he can, and that he catches it so I can euro the skull.

Ken Walker hands down, if he will take it on. In fact I believe he took home a very prestigious taxidermy award a few years back for a blonde full body wolverine he did.

I'm guessing in a ground cubby, or the modern equivalent.

I swear they are the most versatile trap ever invented. I'm pretty sure if I had been able to stay with it I'd have figured out how to take Coyote with them too. And I know I could have taken the most trap shy Wolverine in the bush with one if I'd had the time and opportunity.

I was working on a real wicked set that didn't require an animal to enter the trap for it to work. It was like a jump trap on steroids set.

Anyway, wish I could help you with the taxidermy question but alas I've had zero experience with that. I could never afford such luxuries.

I was going to do the same thing. Even stored a Wolverine, whole, in our deep freeze for a few months in the hopes I could save enough but it didn't work out.

Can a regular person buy a fresh frozen wolverine or lynx from a trapper in order to get it mounted. And if so how much would one go for.

Sorry.....no. Trappers can only sell raw furs to a fur buyer. In order to get yourself a wolverine you would have to buy a tanned fur or a mounted wolverine. You can only buy a finished product...tanned being considered finished.

Ken Walker does great work but you may die of old age before he gets it done. Four years and counting for one of my mounts, and I know of others in the same boat.

Guys,

Was out checking the line this weekend and caught the female's husband wandering through looking for her. Got it in a Lynx cubby set with a 330 in the same creek where I caught the female....just a little further upstream. Was still alive when I got there. I couldn't even begin to explain what a live wolverine sounds like.....literally like a pack of wolves all put together into this one animal! Had to dispatch it. Just weighed it. The female was 23#. He is 34#. What a brute! I know I would be asked for pictures again so...enjoy!

Spoke with F&W when I took the first one in to register it. They already told me that if I caught another one by accident they would let me have it! So...no worries there.

Got the male registered today...no issues. Can't wait to get both the male and female mounted together on the same mount. Believe it will look amazing!

That is so cool. Thanks for posting the pictures and sharing the story, hope to see your mounts when you have them completed.

Many years ago while on the Lupin Gold mine winter road, we got blew in at Lac De Gras and I found one of these critters hiding out of the wind under my trailer, I never moved so fast in my life, they truly are an amazing and an intimidating creature.
